Your first file, for some reason, seems to be password protected? I couldn't download it. I listened to the second song, though, and I liked it. It made me feel super.

Whoa. This is really awesome. I liked this one many times more than the second (though the second is great, too). Great job.

Glad you liked it! Thanks for listening! We're working on a demo EP right now with Alexander as the first single. I'll post more as they get done.

RE: Alexander Who does the singing? It's really, really good.
Hell, the whole thing is really good. The raw, garage sound and ethereal vocals are beautiful, and the songwriting is excellent. I'm also a fan of whoever is doing the drumming. The beat is really off the wall, and the way it's recorded is interesting.
RE: Je Mange Beaucoup des Soleils The singing on this one is good too, though I'm guessing it's a different person as the style is totally different. It reminds me of Pavement. The melody and general sound make me think of "Date With Ikea", specifically, if you're familiar with that song.
In general I think it's a less compelling song - less atmospheric in sound I guess (great Beatles bass sound though), and less melodically complex/beautiful - but still quality stuff.
I'll be keeping tabs on you guys. I'll play "Alexander" for my brothers too; they're music enthusiasts and I think they'd probably be into it.
Have you got MySpace or Last.fm or anything like that? Also, is the lack of an apostrophe in the band name on purpose? :D

Yeah since there's only 2 people in the band, we each do the singing. Jenna, sings on Alexander while I do backup vocals. Mange is all just my vocals.
Alexander definitely is the tighter song, that's why we're using it for the single. I'm pretty proud of it. The drum line was fun to record (I do the drumming). Basically I set up 4 mics, one of which outside the room, and one was actually inside my floor tom to get a big boom. After that it all comes down to the magic of a multiband compressor.
Mange was meant to be the more poppy one of the two, an easy tune to remember. Good on you for picking up the Beatles vibe from the bass, that's exactly what I was trying to recreate. I've been told before that some of the tracks that I take a strong hold of end up sounding Pavement-esque, that's something I certainly don't have a problem with! (Haven't heard this Pavement track in a while, thanks for reminding me of it again!)
We have a myspace, yes, and soon a webpage. But we're waiting to publish these things until our demo EP is almost done. Basically the idea is to jump onto the scene in full force with the EP and shows.
Finally yes, the lack of apostrophe is intentional. We're hoping that will keep us from getting sued or something hahaha. King's Quest and Kings Quest technically have two different meanings... Soooooo... please don't sue.
Many thanks for checking out my stuff. Always been a big fan of yours.

Oh, the other vocals were female? They sounded androgynous... I thought they were falsetto. Nothing wrong with that at all though; they were beautiful.
Anyway, I really look forward to hearing the EP; I'll be looking out for it.

Very Galaxie 500. And when a band sounds like my favorite band of all time... that's a very good thing. Wondering if you have indeed heard of Galaxie though. Anyways, good luck with moving further, I think you've got a really cool sound.

Wow thanks for the kind words Keyser! That's a compliment that strikes me pretty close. In fact I was just listening to On Fire by them the other day. I'm a big fan of Galaxie 500 and that whole late eighties / early nineties shoegaze scene. Having influences like that come across in my music is certainly not something I'm ashamed of!

Kings Quest update!! So we recorded our first music video this past weekend (!!!) and I'm including a demo version of the song its for dubbed Rabbit's Feet. The video should go live in a few weeks. It'll be up on youtube and vimeo. We're still trucking along towards an EP release soon and have since enlisted more members including fellow tigsourcers Eric McQuiggan and Owen Deery on bass and drums respectively. http://db.tt/lSwUvKyWe're starting to plan our shows now. I'd like to do a small eastern canada tour by the end of the year, so keep yer ears to the floor if you're in those necks of the woods!

Yeah! I didn't know there was a thread for this! I'm loving being part of the band, it's nice to have some direction over the half-hearted noodling I used to do! I've also got to pick up some sweet bass gear.
