I don't like the thing where the audience knows that the protagonist is telling the truth but nobody else believes him. That comes across as rather contrived to me.

And the Spanish thing was probably a bit racist.

Everything else was fantastic.

Old disney did not used to cuddle kids that much, despite being now a quasi disney tropes, actually going back looking all primary disney show rather nightmarish imagery for kids to handle!

I'm going to go see Toy Story 3 on my birthday. Game looks good, but I doubt i'd be willing to spend what little money I have on it.

People tend to forget that Snow White used to make children literally piss their pants when it first came out in theaters it was so scary. The caretakers would have to clean right in between shows looking for puddles on the floor. All the from the part where she walks through the spooky forest.

Just saw Toy Story 3 last Saturday.  I thought it was awesome, and the "dark" part totally had me wondering if Pixar would seriously have it end that way.

As for whether it was appropriate for a kids movie, I'd say definitely.  Doesn't anyone remember the Don Bluth animated features of the 80's/early 90's (not the terrible sequels that weren't made by him)?  The Hell scene in All Dogs go to Heaven?  The part in Land Before Time where the triceratops gloats over the "dead" t-rex (which we previously saw fight and kill the hero's colossal mother) that we quickly find out isn't really dead, while the main-ish character is blissfully unaware of this fact?

Or how about the entire G-rated "Secret of Nimh"?  Complete with a flashback where rats are injected with syringes, go through painful-looking mutations, and the scene is topped off with a clear view of freaked-out mice getting sucked down into the empty black void of an air-duct?

Somehow, despite all the nightmare-fuel, these ended up being some of my favorite movies growing up.  The first time was frightening, but after that the characters and the story was just that more appealing.

I also remember my grandmother taking me out of the theater during the Night on Bald Mountain scene when Fantasia was re-released in the early 90's.  (Though thinking back now, I'm not sure if she took me out because I was freaked out by the giant demon or if it was because of the harpy scene.)

I loved this movie. The comedy, writing, characters, drama, action, everything. It was a fantastic movie, and there was not a single moment I did not enjoy. The entire movie was something that all animated movies should strive to be like.

It was a FANTASTIC movie. I almost cried (and I would've) but my friends were being idiots and totally killed the mood. Same thing happened during sex once.

woah hyperbole

When I walked out of the theater, I was thinking the same thing. However, when a movie pushes my buttons as much as this one, I need some time to think about it objectively. I really like Toy Story 3, but looking back at it, something just feels off. I really wished we got to see more of the little girl's toys and Lotso's gang, and the escape felt kind of quick. I think that there was just too much going on in the movie and they didn't spend long enough on the different parts.

Yeah, that was hyperbole. Just showing the awesome elation I felt after seeing it.

I just noticed the parallels to the first movie with Bonnie; her tea scene compared to the first movie, Spanish Buzz compared to Insan-ish Buzz...

Best movie I've seen in awhile. Basically my thoughts are prettyy close to everyone else who likes this movie. Good writing and maturity and all that. Also, the references. There are hella references in all Pixar movies, but this one just takes the cake.

Nope!  I caught that too.  Apparently Lasseter is a huge Miyazaki fan.

It's a shame Totoro didn't have his umbrella. Any large furry creature with an umbrella is automatically a stone cold badass.

I saw Toy Story 3 as well, and liked it a lot.  For those who are saying that the "dark" scene is too dark in comparison to the other Toy Story movies, I would just like to comment that the first movie had some very dark elements.  The "bad" kid's mangled, conglomerate toys (especially the Erector-Set spider with the baby head) are very unsettling, especially to a child.
