I saw this the Thursday after it came out, and I was floored. I was expecting it to be good, what with Pixar being my childhood heroes and all, but MAN. I laughed, I cried, I nearly pooped myself during the incinerator bit. Looking back, they really pushed the nostalgia buttons, maybe a little too much- I think I heard "The Claaaaawwww" one time too many, but I suppose that was so that it would work for the kids who hadn't seen the first movie as a callback.

Overall, the ending is what really got me. After all, I progressed through the movies at about the same pace that Andy grows up- I grew up with those toys just like he did, and I'm sure that there a ton of other people who feel the same way. The little girl was so darn lovable, she's one of my favorite Pixar characters now.

A couple other thoughts:

Did anybody catch the line about Bo Peep and Wheezy? I'm sure that was done intentionally to reference Joe Ranft's passing, but at the same time I was saddened to see so many of the minor characters missing from the movie (which was probably the point).

Immediately after watching Toy Story 3, I went back and watched the first. Three things crossed my mind: One, holy eff have these guys gotten better at their tech. Two, even though the tech is outdated, man can these guys tell a story. Three, holy eff is this movie dark. I mean seriously, this was my favorite movie growing up, and those mangled toys Sid makes still freak me out. That darn baby head/spider thing... And then the scene at the end where they all scare Sid? Seriously, that should have given me nightmares, but I loved it. In fact, I think that kids like movies that scare them, so long as it only scares them a little bit. The Nightmare Before Christmas freaked me out, but it's still one of the few movies I actually own.

The escape bit seemed really rushed out but damn this was such a great movie. I wonder if it'll win an oscar.

That's exactly the way I felt through the whole movie , I was around 7 when I watched the first two , although I had different kind of toys  Well, hello there! but still , this movie was a good chance for me to dive into my childhood memories

also there's hella lot of references here and there ....

and the Spanish Buzz was fuckin hilarious

Yup, it was awesome. How Pixar continues to release incredible movies year after year completely boggles my mind.

Although I must admit that this is my least favorite of theirs of recent years. I preferred Up, Wall-E and Ratatouille to Toy Story 3. Probably because this one is more actiony and abit more geared towards kids. I felt like this didn't have the same emotional depth as those (nothing comes close to Up, imo).

Also, god damn was that baby creepy.

No one in the games industry can say they can release hits year after year and have the integrity of Pixar.

No one in the games industry could ever hope to be like the Pixar of game companies, all game studios have their flaws and evil publishers/owners and what-not.

Maybe disney interactive could if they could release some hits and make some awesome throw-back games.

Why is it that we don't have a Pixar of game companies? Maybe it could be Blizzard before they sunk 80% of their company into world of warcraft. Every game before that was such a terrific hit: Warcraft 1,2,3, starcraft, diablo 1 and 2.

I'd say Valve comes pretty close.

bioware
derp-de-derp our deep plots allow you to have sex with everybody, and make clear cut moral decisions about whether to kill everybody or only kill 80% of the people you see.

I like playing Bioware games, but I don't think they're like, any form of an example of excellence in their craft. Dragon Age felt really emotionally hollow throughout the entire thing. The whole game was pretty much just, "oh whoops, did my entire family just die? toooooo bad, I'm gonna go over here and gaybone this elf and maybe corrupt the most sacred religious relic in the world."

i never got to play dragon age. i was thinking of them as having more of a consistent quality to their games. there's some funky aspects to some of them, but most* all of their games are entertaining and well-made. i agree about the "moral choices" though. they could learn something from cd-projekt and the witcher.

Isn't the obvious one Nintendo? I guess that really only counts for their flagship titles, though.

I'd agree with Treasure or Valve. Platinum, though (and Clover, by proxy), for me, come closest.

I'd say Nintendo would be Dreamworks.

I think Nintendo's more of a Disney than a Dreamworks.  Disney creates decent feature films and makes sequels and ridiculous spin-offs of them (time-travel as a plot device in Cinderella III?) while Dreamworks occasionally makes a great film while the rest are just cash-in sequels and ripoffs of what other studios are doing.  Still, I think Nintendo puts more effort into their sequels than Disney does/did (supposedly stopping them was a demand Pixar made as a requirement for Disney buying them out).  I guess there's even a bit of Don Bluth studios when you think of the whole Nintendo/CDi deal (great films that rights went to other studios who made terrible sequels to them).

Maybe EA is Dreamworks?

Oh man, this is the best film I've seen in a long while. So good! So much fun. Such good story telling. Wonderful characters. Also very pretty. I agree with [EARLIER POST] - would've loved to know more about the Sunnyside Gang or Bonnie's toys. But heck, I kind of wanted more of everything, and there's already a great deal in the movie.

Makes me want to watch the first two again - probably haven't seen 'em in 10 or so years. Pretty much a perfect end to the series. No one does films like Pixar does films.

If any of ya'll haven't seen it, go. See it whilst it's in Cinemas. Really. Now. Stop reading this. It'll still be here.
