I bet this contest is going to churn out some really bizarre (and amusing) games. There are some really twisted game parodies out there. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with...

I am starting to lean more towards this Harvest Moon one, the title makes me crack up and immediately springs ideas to mind. The only one I've seen so far that made me laugh harder was "Chocobitch Tales" (Chocobo Tales) with Chocobo as a pimp. There are so many good ones out there, so hard to choose!

what -- that's what 'realize' means, specifically. to make something real is to realize it.

Oh, alright, I just felt it implied that people needed to tie their ideas down to the carts too much. Nevermind then!

I'd prefer if people used carts with original concepts and strayed away from simple game parodies, but if you're feeling strongly about that one go ahead.

I'm trying to see about that, but I can't promise anything.

What about using stuff from http://mightygodking.com/index.php/2008/04/21/fun-from-yesterday/? The artwork is from real Atari 2600 game boxes, but the text has been altered and it's not like the original games ever remotely resembled the cover image. Smiley

I'm not sure if I'm doing this yet. I'm tempted to create a thread but I might just forget about it. We'll see.

Those I like, specifically because of what you mentioned, how these covers were outlandish even when you put them side by side with the games they housed.

I'm tempted to make the METEOR DETECTIVE CLUB game but that will likely be a visual novel thing and I would need an awesome artist. hmmm. hmmmmmmm.

In that case I will go with this one (a game about thumb wrestling sounds like a fun challenge):

Can anyone tell me what the title is (in English)?

Can we be inspired by images that are not framed by a fake cart but might as well be? If not, can we frame an image of our choosing and then be inspired by it?

And, not that I was planning on doing this, but just to be clear: Can we be inspired by an image we made?

Just wondering... could you make a new cart/cover art just for your game, as long as you let other people use it too?

I love the idea of this compo, I donno if I'll be able to enter tho.

The images you based your game on must be made specifically to be fake carts/boxes, or it gets way too generalised.

You cannot alter the original picture in any way to make it a fake cart or make it fit into an idea you want to do.

You cannot use your own images.
