In my humble opinion, the competitive crowd is pure poison to any game they decide to play. It's always the same bloody pattern, they tear games apart from the inside. They continue being a pain in the ass with their whines about balance and entitlement until the magic formula that made a game great has been completely torn apart and replaced by "balance bandages". These make the game look like Frankensteins Monster and about as much fun as playing Rock/Paper/Scissors for the millionth time. At which point the competitive crowd ironically loses interest and moves on. Like locusts.
Anyways, I've played the update for a bit and I'm loving it. Plenty of food for my demoman. I haven't gotten one of the new unlocks yet but that's okay.

No respectable multiplayer game that isn't a stupid MMO holds content back on the meta-game level. Name one, I dare you.
Modern Warfare/Battlefield, you're welcome.

If you played chess without access to bishops, is the game fair? After all, you still have horses which are of about equal value to bishops.
I actually agree with this, but not for your reasons. It is possible to play chess AND WIN with only your bishops or only your knights. It all depends on your style of play. Personally, I got the direct hit fairly early on, but I don't use it, it doesn't go with my style of play. In a similar vein I got the razorback early on but I don't use it, I prefer to have the mg. I think all the whining your doing is really detrimental to the game as a whole. Sure its not entirely fair when people get weapons, but that's the point. If everybody had exactly the same weapons the game would become boring quickly. As it is it's part of the game trying to guess whether the spy you just killed had dead ringer or not, or whether the heavy you're running towards has Natasha and is going to kill you before you get any closer. Seriously, lighten up. You're ruining the fun of the game.

Modern Warfare/Battlefield, you're welcome. Also http://www.leagueoflegends.com/. Street Fighter 4, Tekken 6, Super Smash Bros Brawl and pretty much every fighting game has unlockable stuff. I think most racing games too these days.. And a lot of those games CHARGE you for that unlockable stuff..

Tired of arguing with you. Stop playing the game if you don't enjoy it, simple as that. There's no use bitching and complaining about it because that will not solve your problems. I could have worded my statements better, but Inanimate clarified them up better. Going to play some TF2 alll night, anyone wants to join me I'm allen in the tigsource steam group or > steam community pagep.s. I love you Core Xii, let's stop being bitter and make sweet love

Unlockables are a cheap way to keep you playing in almost every game that features them. I hate them to death.
TF2 is one of my favorite games ever either way.

a game that can survive having competitive players tearing it apart is better for the experience.

Yeah I don't buy the "comp players know best" thing. They're a vocal minority.

I don't like how the competitive TF2 scene seems to enforce class limits. That totally waters down TF2's strategic potential.

Class variety is not necessary. It would be pretty weird and risky for a competitive team to use just one class, but they absolutely should have the freedom to do so.

How is class variety not necessary, I think a game full of medics and soldiers is pretty boring.

better for the competitive players
well sure, at least that. but if the mechanics break down when you start to get even minor competition then the game needs some tweaks. when i used to play smash bros/starcraft every friday night, we started with all items on / big game hunters, but as people starting getting grudge matches going, and more knowledge of what's going on, they got pissed at the random items / minor map imbalances. *raeg at pokeballs!* so i agree that a competitive minded game isn't better for more players, but the game itself is stronger.. somehow. who knows. i don't think i could defend my point more. haven't played comp tf2.. i would think the standard 5 point maps would be lame with 6 scouts, and demomen are restricted to one so the game doesn't last as long. i think other classes aren't played more because they're hard to play in the symmetrical gametypes played in competition. also my poor pyro gets es'ploded i'm surprised i made it through so many words and so few are underlined in red.. it's 8.30am, so i should sleep soon.. o_o' can you believe mcdonalds doesn't serve burgers at 4am!?
