Your hosting site requires people to have an account to download, or download a special "e-snips downloader."  I want to try this, but don't want to download this "e-snips downloader," nor do I want to make an account with them.

I agree the site is stupid, but click the link that says "Download TIGCandyBar.zip" with the zipped icon above it and not the one that says "download" with the green arrow.

Okay, I did a "Save link as."  Otherwise, it gives that account login stuff.

Anyway, the game was good - I like how it is an actual Atari 2600 rom image; very authentic.  Gameplay-wise, it was fun and addicting.  Nice work!

I need some help!  Apparently my formatting or something is wrong in Mellys HTML for finished games.  I don't think it's that my download is not direct as the guidelines state it's allowed:

Quote
For files, use direct download links whenever possible, don't link to another website unless you have no choice (some hosting services don't allow direct-download links, in those cases it's alright to link to a webpage with the download)]

Also, to make sure it's dead clear, I added the following to my entry:

Quote
ATTENTION!  The Stella Atari 2600 emulator is included for Mac  Linux and Windows in the .ZIP file!

Stella-3.1.2_intel_10.6-macosx.dmg (.dmg is Mac)
Stella-3.1.2-win32.exe (.exe files are for PCs)
stella_3.1.2-1_i386.deb (.deb are Linux)

Open the CandyBar.bin file with the emulator once it has been installed!

Is this enough?  I'd hate to be disqualified due to a misunderstanding.  Also, I directly cut-and-pasted Mellys HTML for finished games.. I don't know what's wrong. Sad

Here is the apparently broken HTML I posted in the FINISHED topic:

    http://www.esnips.com/doc/086b21d9-9141-40d7-a68d-2e6ba03acff8/TIGCandyBar
</td>

UPDATE:  I changed it to this as it makes the link to the ZIP file clickable

</td>

Any help would be a great relief!

Fixed that up for you;

You just need to update your finished entry post with this. Gentleman

You shouldn't use such a dishonest file host. Now my first impression of your game will be fear over downloading malware.  Lips Sealed

Will get around to trying this later.

@Soulliard:  Give me some constructive feedback such as the name of a preferred host and I'll consider changing.  I've tested eSnips behavior just before posting this and I still JUST get my zip file when clicking on it.

Once there click on "Download TIGCandyBar.zip"

Consider judging my game by playing it.  That's why we're here right?

Don't worry, I'll judge the game by its own merits when I get to it. But bad file hosts are still unpleasant to deal with. The problem with eSnips is that it has multiple download buttons, and only one of them downloads the game.

Here's a good run-down of some of the better free file hosts:

Nice little game. I think the play area looks a bit messy though. I had to read the (very funny) PDF manual to figure out what was going on.

Wow! Retro-nostalgia overload. This is just the kind of game I used to pick up at the local newsagents for £2.99 as a kid. Very shallow gameplay, but I played long enough to get up to level eight. I figured it all out before reading the (mildly funny) manual, just like I used to in the old days. Good work. Hand Thumbs Up Left Smiley

The manual was indeed pretty amusing, and the game itself felt like going back to so many years ago. Gameplay's simplistic and the controls don't seem to work perfectly, but for some reason those things don't bother me when I imagine this could be played on a real 2600 console.

An authentic, engaging 2600 game in all respects. Nicely done. Grin

To summarize: a real app became a fake retro artwork joke which became a real retro game based on the fake artwork for the real app.

Yeah, the PANIC guys are pretty cool!  I had no idea about Derek being an intern there though Smiley  One of my few requests was a shout out to TIGSource and Batari BASIC.  This turned out to be my most successful competition run ever  Kiss
