That's how they normally look: bronze golems have one normal arm, and one retractable chain arm with a circular saw blade on the end. They swing the chain arm in a 90-degree arc when they attack, slashing up to three enemies.

It's really hard to tell that's a sawblade.  I honestly had no clue what it was.  Might want to ask your artist to work on it a bit more.

Minor update: I've updated the game's particle system to support multiple particle fountains onscreen at once. The spray of sparks from big AOE attacks looks pretty darn cool.

Oh, and I've made some bug fixes, 'natch.

We now have sprites for every single class except the lizardman! I'll be posting them in a bit. Smiley

Thanks! Personally, I can't wait till we get to animating them. They are going to look so cool in motion. Grin

Just read this bit of news about Demons Souls: http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/107710-demons-souls-north-american-servers-going-offline-next-month.html

Aaaaaaaand this is why I'm doing multiplayer via email. You will be able to play this game with friends forever. None of this "depending on people to keep paying for servers" nonsense. Not while I have anything to say about it.

I guess that Frozen Synapse uses this system too.

how does multiplayer through email work?

I talked about this in a few posts scattered over this devlog:

From the player's perspective, this is how it works:

1. Load up a new game.
2. The host takes a turn. At the end of the turn, the game generates a turn file to send to the next player.
3. The host emails it to them.
4. The next player loads the turn file, watches the previous turn, then takes his turn. At the end of the turn, the game generates a turn file to send to the next player.

And so on until someone wins.

The sprite work in this is fantastic. Looking forward to seeing them in motion Smiley

That's two of us. Smiley

The sprites are great, but I think they might look better without the black outlines?

I dunno--I've got these in-game now, and they look pretty good. I think the black outline helps distinguish them from their surroundings. I'll upload a screenshot later and you can judge for yourself. Wink

Minor update: now that we have female character sprites for certain classes, I've updated the game's name generation function so it now produces female names for characters of those classes.

Also: we now have a lizardman sprite! Look how awesome this guy is:

A few things about this .. his feet and boots look tiny, like he's squeezed his feet into tiny little red stockings.  And his mace looks a tad bit small, too.  His right hand also seems larger than his forearms .. not sure if that's intentional or not.  I'd advise your artist to fix it up a bit.

craig: ah, I'd seen you mention the email thing before but hadn't really paid much attention to it. Sounds like an interesting way of doing things. Does this mean though that you can't play 'live' games and that you have to continuously go back and forth to your email to get the next move?
