EDIT: MOVED TO DEVLOGS

PLAY
Arrows - Move
Space - Interact
A, S, D - Bark, bow-wow, growl during battles

Plans for further development:
  • Add title menu
  • Add win screen
  • Add tutorial for battle
  • Make NPCs say things before their first fight
  • Adjust the battle system?

Looking for any/all critical feedback!  Thanks.

That was super adorable!

The combat system was very confusing initially, but I guess figuring it out is basically the only challenge in the game, and it is actually pretty simple, so maybe that is okay.

Very nicely done!

I beat all the battles with just randomly mashing buttons.

Game's fucking adorable. Kiss

Thought I'd give this a go from work, all I got was a black screen.
This machine runs XP, IE8. I'll check it out on my home machines after work.

They are so cute Smiley
But battles are strange.
I won all of them by simply mashing buttons randomly.

Yeah, there isn't any strategy to it, the idea is to bark until the opponent gets so nervous it declares you BOSS.  Not really sure if I want to add any strategy either, I think mashing buttons makes it more silly.

Really charming! Liked the style and dialogue. Didn't much enjoy the battles. The messages went by way too fast to appreciate, and I wouldn't have realized that button-mashing was the intended solution without having read the thread. I also had trouble seeing what direct impact each button press had on the combat. I'm thinking it might be more intuitive to roll everything into a single action button?

You can go through the house just before the cone barrier by pressing space in front of it. I think it's the only house that behaves like that...

Very nice =)

You could possibly give the player feedback immediately after a battle though. It didn't occur to me that I could actually talk to them again until after I had beaten most of them...

The door thing would have been easier to get if the other doors gave you some response when interacting with them, even if it was only a "it's locked" - type dialog. Also, you you can't open the door if you hold up when pressing space.

As the others, I really liked the style and colors of it. the Yellow-cyan striped houses kind of blend into the background in a way that looks a bit weird but other than that it looks nice and uniform.

Yea its a cute game. I think the music fits well. Well done!
I was just mashing buttons until I won the battles. And I too could not find the bone!

That house door thing is the worst thing about this game.

Worst thing.

the game has a lot of potential and its very cute, but its kind of unresponsive which is a very bad thing. also I couldnt appreciate the trash talk in the battles because it was too fast and I was too busy mashing asd like hell to win the battle

edit: oh I found one of my problems was that I was still pressing an arrow while hitting space, that way space bar wont work. gotta fix that

Glad to see you're keeping this up ... it remains super cute Smiley  The dialog is great.

I think some extra visual feedback on attack might help the battle system a bit ...

Silly, and somehow totally fun! I think it's just the perfect length, too. One thing that would make it even better, maybe, would be to have the ability to go into all the houses and interact with the people inside? I don't know. I think it has a very nice "experience" as it is. Sort of makes you wonder if that's how puppies really experience the world... talking to cool rats and all.

Ok, so to summarize:

  • The game is cute
  • The door mechanic sucks
  • Battle mechanics need to be explained in game
  • Battle messages need to be slower paced
  • There should be some sort of visual feedback when you're barking/etc
  • The bone needs to be easier to find (or findable, lol)
  • More NPCs/exploration
  • Keystrokes need to be changed slightly

So my specific questions for people who have played the game:
1. Do you like the zero-strategy button-mashing battles?
2. Do you feel like there needed to be more/varied dialogue?
3. Do you think the game needs to be longer?

1. No, not really at all.
2. The dialogue seemed to really flow with the rest of the game and felt appropriate, but more of it would be awesome.
3. Yes.

Very much, yes. It really puts the player in the mind of the puppy.

2. Do you feel like there needed to be more/varied dialogue?

It definitely wouldn't hurt. I don't think any one character should talk a whole lot more though. Just more characters who talk.

Not if you keep the same button mashing mechanic. As it is, I just about get bored with it when the game ends. If you changed the combat though, maybe.

1. I like the zero strategy battles, they are cute, but i dont like button mashing. Maybe you could do it rock/paper/scissors, like bark/bow-wow/growl, no strategy at all, just randomness.
2. dialogue was great, it wont hurt to have more of it available
3. I dont think you need a lot more content but maybe it would be cool to have more varied stuff to do so you can just do puppy stuff for a while if you feel like it.
