Hi, the Korean company GPH just published its latest gaming console: the Caanoo This is the latest console in the GP32 / GP2X / WIZ series... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GP2X_CaanooI've opened Caanoo News, a new website do promote and share infos new games for this console: http://www.caanoo-news.comDo you guys have projects to create games for this platform? Or to port games you've already completed? I see most projects discussed here are for the PC platform... Why not consider the Caanoo? It's small screen resolution (320x240) makes it perfect for pixel art games. I've been surprised for a long time that indy developers active on this forum don't usualy consider indy consoles as platform for their projects... And the company behind the Caanoo opened an app store similar to Apple's app store, appart that the Caanoo's one is not currently working If you have projects for the Caanoo, let me know, I'll share infos on http://www.caanoo-news.com

Oooooh. Looks...shiny. Now I have a better idea of a good target platform. DO FREAKING WANT! Better question: How much does the Caanoo SDK cost for use?

I'm very cautious with new platforms but it is definitely something worth watching. Will it make it big or not? Time will tell.

It's an open-source platform. I don't think the SDK costs anything. In fact, I believe that its predecessors all came with the SDK bundled in with them.

I'm suspicious because the wiki uses ellipses. I am fond of the idea though.

Hi Melly,
I started this thread to gather information from members about their projects... Do they have ones targeting this new open game system? If so, I'd like to publish articles about them on the news website I've started...
It is about giving exposure to this community projects outside of this forum, not about showing off my own achievements...
So I'm not sure I get the meaning of your warning here...

The point is that the original post is suspicously like spam, a random advertisement. The moderator (Melly) is just doing his due diligence to determine whether or not that is the case. The fact that you have replied in a non-formulaic fashion is the first step in verifying your authenticity, so kudos there.
It may be determined that the thread needs to be moved. The nature of your inquiry is development-specific. They may decide to move it to the DevLog section. (since you seem interested in collecting developmental progress)
For my part, I wouldn't mind taking a closer look at the Caanoo. I doubt that it is a viable platform for making money at this point. But it could be a fun side project for porting existing software.

An introduction of yourself in the thread I linked you is something we expect from all users. It helps show they want to take part of the community. It seems obvious you're not a spammer, but you're still expected to provide an introduction.

It seems as though directing new members to the rules and introduction threads is pretty routine, and people generally don't seem to do it in a very nice or welcoming matter. Perhaps there is a more efficient and nicer way to help uninformed manbabies. How about automatic redirection to the rules page upon registration?

Do you guys have projects to create games for this platform? Or to port games you've already completed I got a GP32X which at the time I was interested in coding for it - but I never got very far into the stuff like linux, c, sdl etc. For now I'd be interested in developing Flash or HTML5 stuff which would scale to run nicely on these type of devices or some cross-platform kind of thing like Unity.

I agree. On a side note, what's has happened with the naming of gaming hardware nowadays? Caanoo? First thing that came to my mind was the outdoors and canyons. I know it's hard to think of a marketable name, but, really?

I first thought of this: The Caanoo seems like a pretty strange console overall. I'm guessing it's only powerful enough to emulate D-pad-using consoles, so having a control stick in place of a D-pad is a pretty quirky design choice.

@Skofo, yeah something like that. Hoho. Don't get me started on Natal and Kinect. Why can't they name it like PlayStation or GameCube, names that lets you know that its a game system just from its name. How about... GameMaster or PlayBox? No? Ok I guess it's not that easy.

Wow. Definitely looking more into it. Problem being the ability to scratch up the cash to do so, namely in acquiring the system itself. I guess that'll be done eventually.

Didn't the GP2X Wiz just come out within the past two years? Does this have backwards compatibility?
I dunno; I'm not sure I'd want to develop for a platform that changes that quickly. Not that iPhone devs seem to care.
