I dunno; I'm not sure I'd want to develop for a platform that changes that quickly. Not that iPhone devs seem to care.

What changes in the iPhone other than the look?

While it's a bit early to provide 100% confirmed infos, it seems it will be easy to compile games wich works both on the Caanoo and on the Wiz, the previous model.

Just have to compile them twice, with different parameters...

Wake up old topic, I have some news!

We have just published our first Caanoo at Caou: http://www.caou.org/jumptothemoon.
The gameplay is inspired by the iPhone game "Doodle jump": let your character bouncing on platforms while tilting the console to give its jumps a general direction.

It's a freeware and only for the Caanoo!

I'm now able to give more feedback on the Caanoo as a development platform:
to be host , it's pretty easy! The popular SDL library can be used, and additional lib for the accelerometer & vibration engine are provided by the console maker...

I'm still hoping to see nice port from PC on this console  Undecided

I've been trying to get more active on the GP2X boards and Rikku2000 just added me to MSN chat. Currently I'm porting the FCEUX emulator : http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?/topic/58060-fc2x-alpha-svn-revision-2/ and I have the preliminary alpha done. However, running an x6502 in C is very expensive and requires wayyyyy too much CPU, so I'm in the process of porting the whole FCEUX 6502 into ARM assembly. Its not an easy process, so don't expect that to be done anytime soon. However the initial port works perfectly at 15 fps, no reports of rom failures yet.

I don't want one.

Originally I tought that Dingoo was stupid and Canoo (that to me sounds suspiciously like Dingoo) was better, I mean, GP2X was better...

But GPH keep changing the hardware every year, it is pretty stupid. I was thinking of importing GP2X to my country, back then it was the Wiz, I remember how many people still were waiting for the first batch they ordered arrive, because Wiz production had just started, and then I asked Tony Han (the GPH guy that knows english) to please don't change the hardware again and stick with the Wiz... He said he would, but 1 week later Play Asia announced the Canoo.

Then I visited the forums and saw a huge shitstorm, because they made the Wiz worse... (ie: worse is removing OLED and D-PAD and putting back the hated stick, and also making the unit uglier), and also because people were mad at GPH breaking their own promises (they launched Canoo before the Wi-Fi unit for Wiz for example...)

So, no, I won't go with GPH anymore until they stop churning out consoles every year.

This is the first time I've heard of Caanoo and seeing it's an open-source linux-based platform makes me  Smiley Time will tell if it's worth developing games for it.

@Skofo haha that was my first thought too!
