Hello, I'm a hobbyist developer based out of Northern Virginia/District of Columbia Metro area. I've got a couple of guys that I've been working with for a few months on and off, but I know we'd all love to meet and collaborate in person with new people.
I've got some stuff in the works using Unity3D, which I'm trying to finish before we take on a new project, but I know we'd all be extremely excited to collaborate on the NEXT project.
Of course, I've got to warn you that this is a 'learn as you go' endeavor, and there's a lot that we have yet to learn. But we're serious people, college grads who hold or have held jobs in the business world. We would hope that you would be as well.
I know that I am extremely interested in narratives and narrative systems, and although those rarely have a place in smaller projects, I would very much like for any project I work towards to pursue some kind of thematic integrity.
We're also very interested in cross-platform projects. It's always a terrible shame when someone has an amazing idea and you can't share it because you're limited by the machine it was meant to run on. So interoperability is a compelling interest (and challenge) for us.
Anyway, we'd love to hear from you, if only to talk to other folks who are excited about game design.

Well, I'm also in the Northern Virginia region.
I don't know how much I can offer outside writing, as that's what I do, but if you ever need someone to piece together narrative, setting, history, and world, I'd love to help out.

Hey Alehkhs, Sorry I missed your post. You said you are living in NoVa? I know we're always looking for new people, if not to work with us, than simply to sit with us and talk shop. One place you can catch us is at the IGDA chapter in DC, they're talking about having a meeting in October. http://www.igda.org/forum/october-13th-chapter-meetingOur group also has fairly regular informal get-togethers to shoot the breeze and talk game dev. I'd warn you that I am very strongly of the opinion that Indie devs should never be afraid to dip their toes in unfamiliar waters, so if we do bring you in I know we'd ask you to try your hand at some technical tasks or asset creation. I know I'd also rather work on writing and design than code, but it's just the nature of the medium that story informs art design and systems. Since we're such a small group, and hobbyists to boot, it's critical that everyone takes at least a small part in the direction of each. I hope I haven't scared you off! Look forward to hearing from you.

Oh, yeah, I agree entirely that a game dev should be flexible. I've no skill in programming currently, but would love to figure it all out.

Well, hopefully you're coming to the IGDA meeting on the 13th, but maybe we can have a sit down before then?
Maybe October the 9th or 10th? Have a NoVa indie game dev sit-down?

Hey folks. Well the DC IGDA meeting was this week, and it was pretty cool.
I think there were five or so games that actually got shown during the meeting, things that folks are, or have been working on.
There was a 3rd person shooter, a ninjarope platformer, an extensible wargame, an educational game, and I brought the latest builds of Deceptiworld and Son, Stranger Native
It sounds like there's another sponsored event in November, so you should keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, I'd love to be able to schedule a sit down to meet with other DC game hobbyists.
I was thinking Tuesday, October 26th. PM me if that sounds like something you'd be interested in.

Bumping because we're coming up onto DC's big gaming event. Magfest is scheduled for the 13th thru 17th of January, and I have every intention of being there.
So, we've got about 5 folks meeting irregularly. The group has splintered to work on different projects but we still compare, collaborate, and make suggestions.
If you've got a project you're working on, or would like a project to jump in on, and you live in Northern Virginia, DC, or Maryland, then hit me up.
We're always glad to see new faces.

This weekend is the Global Game Jam. www.globalgamejam.orgThere are three locations within reasonable distance to the District of Columbia hosting Jams. George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, University of Maryland in Rockville, and one more in Baltimore. We're always looking for people to collaborate or converse with. Show up to an event or contact a local game development organization.
