Huh, I just checked the Registration, and there's a captcha AND simple questions.

I also found this to be a bit funny.

holy shit do I feel dumb. I kept wondering "why are all these spambots getting through but I keep getting errors when I try register?". And then I realized that I answered one of the registration questions wrong continually. I kept putting "games" instead of "gaming". It only took about 20 tries!  Facepalm

I AM A NIGERIAN PRINCE. HELP ME TIGSOURCE BY GIVING ME YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION AND I WILL GIVE YOU RICHES BEYONd BELIEF, ALL THE RICHES OF AFRICA. I SHALL GIVE YOU THE EGG OF THE ROC, A LAMP HOLDING A DJINN, A GOLD PIECE FOR EVERY GRAIN OF SAND IN THE DESERT. ALSO I CAN GIVE YOU VIAGRA FOR THE LOW LOW PRICE OF I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH VIAGRA IS.

So apparently the system doesn't let you through if you have "viagra" in your name? Well... I kind of hope we can get a more effective anti-bot system than that.

INSURANCE! EXCUSE ME SIR YOU LOOK LIKE A MAN WHO WILL NEED INSURING SOON. GIVE ME YOUR FORTUNE. GIVE ME YOUR MONEY. GIVE ME YOUR PETS AND YOUR DEAREST DAUGHTER. IN RETURN, VIAGRA TO HAVE SEX WITH YOUR WIFE.

I SHALL GIVE YOU SO MANY THINGS

I like how previously they tried to fool us a little by using real names mixed in with some random numbers, now they can't even be bothered with that and are just using completely jibberish names and emails judging by the last member.

The stats page, down near the bottom, shows exactly how many new members the forum gain day-to-day. It shows that member sign ups really ballooned from April onwards.

Weird how the number of new posts has dropped off quite a bit over the past year.

I'd love to see the server logs, see if there's a common user agent or ip range.  I suspect that while people are doing this they have some kind of automated system that does most of the registration.

"avg 17 second time, 85% accuracy, $1.39 for 1k solved CAPTCHAS"
Bot attempts, if fails passes to a human (somewhere in India likely). Mechanical Turk style, they solve the captcha and your API gets a string returned to it that you can pass into your form.. like the Tigsource forums!

Specialized knowledge might be better, like "On the thread titled XXX, what is the fourth word in the sentence?" *shrug*

What happened in December of 2007 that resulted in 700+ members online at once?
