my mother was born in iran and raised in the US, my father was born in austria and raised in brazil. i'm also the descendent of general kutuzov, the russian general who was the head of the russian army when it fought napoleon in the napoleonic wars, and who is a character in the novel "war and peace"

i generally agree with smithy though that it's silly to take pride something that you didn't accomplish yourself; being born into a group took no effort so it's not something to feel proud of. but you can be aware of it and seek to learn about it at least, since genetics does influence quite a lot. for example, since i'm mostly russian it's relevant to me that russians tend to have certain genetic peculiarities
