I don't think jogging on an empty stomach is a very good idea. You body needs fuel for the run, so you want something your body can turn into energy fast.

I personally eat half a banana and 2 bread slices 30 minutes before. That should give you about 200 calories that will be quickly available for your workout. Also that won't make you feel heavy yet you won't feel like you are starving.

I have tried the empty stomach approach several times and my performance was lacking terribly and I was getting a mild stomach ache and nausea. But everyone is different, some swear by the empty stomach method, there's a myth it will help you burn fat, but try both and see how you feel. Having a workout journal is a very good idea.

well you are right, people are different.
some prefer an empty stomach and some prefer a light little meal.
(but no heavy meal Wink

I train for soccer for an hour and a half twice a week, play a match on Sunday, train for gaelic football twice weekly for about an hour, play matches on Saturday, sometimes midweek.

I do too much.:S

I do some kind of stretching/yoga.. unwinding? For an hour a day if I remember to. Basically find some muscle group that hurts and then massage/stretch it till it feels awesome.

i promised people in irc i'd reveal what my secret paul eres exercise routine is once the poll has reached 100 votes, and now it has, so

i basically use isometrics/isotonics (like the stuff here), with supplementary cables like this. about 2-3 times a week. i also walk half an hour a day, mostly cause it helps me think about my game more clearly rather than as exercise.

i've heard (and it's my experience) that the body only improves when faced with new stressors, so i vary what i do every month a bit (there's a wide variety of exercises that you can do with the stuff in the links above). if you keep doing the same exercise over and over you won't really improve as fast as if you change the exercise you do every month or so.

i've also recently been reading about kettlebells and intend to buy one of them eventually, as they seem pretty great and have a lot of varied exercises you can do with them

I've been working out on the gym regularly in the past (three times a week, 1.5 hour each), it's been going on for little less then 2 years, but since then my body deteriorated into an amorphous fat-bag. Now I'm training again but only once a week, I don't have that much free time now.

yeah, a lot of devs are like 'i've no time to exercise' but i've found exercise actually raises productivity significantly, for every hour you spend exercising you probably get more than an hour back in 'not too tired to work' time later (up to a sensible amount)

I agree with that Paul.

I work out a lot.  I was a competitive swimmer in high school and part of college.  After college I stuck with the sport.  I currently train four mornings a week at the pool (6am - 7:30am).  I lift twice a week and run once or twice a week.

Aside from the health benefits, it really helps keep the schedule steady and consistent.  I think it's worthwhile (and really beneficial) to maintain a healthy mental and physical balance.

I never really make the conscious decision to exercise, because it doesn't really interest me; however, I bike and climb trees and walk on bars (which is surprisingly tiring) pretty regularly and they feel like fun and exercise at the same time so I figure that's damn well good enough :3

---> also biking is a nice way to not have to take public transit, trees are a nicer place to sit than on a bench or a chair or a floor, and walking on bars is a skill in and of itself that will probably never come in handy but it's still fun

Anyway, aside from feeling like organized exercise routines are a bit weird, people in general should do whatever feels the most right but should do something o:
