Hartacon Tactics Demo for Windows is now available for download here!

Presentation

Hartacon Tactics is a multiplayer turn-based strategy RPG developed with XNA 4.
Players recruit characters of eight different classes, each with peculiar strengths, skills and weapons. By winning battles, parties gain Gold Points (GPs), used to recruit new characters and buy new equipments, while individual characters gain Upgrade Points (UPs), used to learn new skills and increase stats.
Battles take place on 2D isometric maps, players can challenge each other individually or teaming up in alliances.
The game features traditional RPG elements such as elements and altered states.

NEW! I am releasing the Map Editor to the public. It comes with a watermarked version of the tileset.  People can make maps and submit them for review to be included in the game by sending them to [email protected]. Here is the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?uhwiug70eh9ybb2

Mapping Guidelines
Dimensions: from a minimum of 12x12 to a maximum of 24x24. Maps will be assigned to different types of matches based on their size.
Edges: edges do not need to be straight lines. Maps may have holes and irregular borders.
Connection: make a single connected movement area in order to avoid characters to be placed in unreachable positions.
Height gap: consider that almost every character is able to jump over a gap of 3, values of 4-5 make a selection for the most agile characters, 6+ should be considered a barrier that cannot be passed.
Objects: objects become transparent when they hide characters and maps can rotate, however try to limit the use of large objects in order not to make too much cluttered maps and leave some open spaces for the battle.

Presentation

Hartacon is an online RPG game developed with RPG Maker XP that allows people to challenge each other in multiplayer battles.
Each player can create one or more parties each with a given amount of Upgrade Points (UPs). Adding characters to a party and buying equipments consumes the party's UPs. UPs can be gained by playing online battles.
Characters gain Growth Points (GPs) when they level up. GPs can be used to buy skills and increase stats.

Credits

I implemented almost every bit of the game from scratch.
I want to thank the people behind the Netplay project and Blizzard for his RMX-OS from which I have learned a lot, but I'm coding my own classes for everything.
I'm using Selwyn's Resolution Script.
The animation system for the battlers is provided by DerVVulfman.
The notifier is provided by Dark32.

All the ripped graphics are just placeholders.

I don't have updates on the game as I'm working on re-making the all thing in C# for an XNA release. It's an ambitious goal, let's see what happens.
I started with a tileset and map editor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=530gW63hpaY
Since when I made this video I added a few new functions and now I can see a preview of my maps with tiles, height and objects.

A little update about the development of the XNA version of Hartacon. I now have map and character(s) in game. Isometric view with four orientations and zoom.

My Word! This gets my attention, for the XNA release do you plan to use Lidgren or something similar?

To be honest I had never heard of Lidgren. I read it's network stuff related. I am using the XNA built-in networking library and I have successfully tested the game between two PCs on the same LAN. I plan to release this for the XBOX, so I don't need third-party networking modules.

The background used in some screens is a map from dofus. The windowskin is made by one of the artists in my team. The huds with HPs and MPs in the battle screen is mine. Interface design in general is also mine.
