I was just wondering if anyone here was doing movember this year. For those that don't know, it's an event to raise money for prostate cancer research. The idea is that at the start of the month you clean shave, and then over the month of november you grow and groom a fabulous mustache. I have fancied doing it for a few years now, but finally got some work colleagues to join me. Safety in numbers! Would be interested to see if anyone is doing it, and we can share tips, progress photos etc. Today i had the first proper shave for probably five years. It was quite pleasant actually, but i'm not liking the feel of a smooth chin ... http://www.movember.com/ if anyone's interested.

I'm doing it! I can't imagine how strange chopping your beard off would be after 5 years - I'd only had my scruff for a few months and being clean-shaven was still the weirdest thing.
In our modern feminist/postfeminist/postmodern era, the notion of masculinity or what it means to be a man has been sort of dismantled, and I'm not sure if we've managed to pick up the pieces and build something sturdy yet. An event like Movember really helps us men feel a strong sense of identity and common purpose for a very good cause.

Sure, I started doing that about a week ago anyway because I thought I looked better with a beard. edit: Oh, mustaches. I'll be honest that makes this a lot less appealing

I'll be honest that makes this a lot less appealing The fact that you look a bit silly is kinda the point though. @adam_smasher: Yay another movemberite! Glad to see someone else on board :D And yeah being clean shaven is weird. I look so young! Sorano, the itch goes away once you're past the nasty stubble phase. Something i am not looking forward come december! edit: here's proof. Clean shaven feels weird!!!

Well, a rl friend told me to wash it with shampoo and it helped diminish the itching a lot.

I'm going for the full-beard and then transitioning into the 'stache at the end of the month. Last times I've grown a beard I've tended to style it a bit so it didn't look too bad, but this time I'm going hobo-style!
No neck-beard though, that shit itches like crazy.

I can't grow a moustache to save my life, nevermind cancer research.

Same here, man. I'll do Movember but nobody will be able to tell the difference.

Is there any sort of wax to get your mustache to that 80s porn star look?
