Great idea!

If you plan to do it regularly, maybe you could set a maximum amount of pics/projects each time (like 20 projects each week for instance)?

noooo please don't do that, it's unnecessarily limiting and counters the point of the thing
we want as many cool pics/projects as we can get. of course you shouldn't have to assemble all of them as that might be a lot of work, but we could get help so it's easier. i'm sure lots of the people tweeting their screens would be happy to help put them together

It was most a "practical" advice than a will to limit the potential of the idea, really. If AndrewFM feels ready to assemble every pics/projects he will receive each time, well that's great.  Hand Thumbs Up Right

I wish the pictures linked to the actual games' threads/blogs.

I figure that the Twitter account is a good middle-point, that is shared between all of the submissions. Not everyone who posts a #screenshotsaturday is going to have a blog/website for their game, but they all will have a Twitter account. Those who don't have a website will probably be doing their updates through Twitter, and those who do have a website will probably have it listed in their Twitter profile.

I wouldn't mind doing it each Saturday. However, from now on, I'll probably wait till Sunday to put up the screenshot list. That way I don't have to keep checking back throughout the day to update the list with new screenshots. I can just grab them all in one go.

Once you have a Twitter account, you just need to upload your screenshot somewhere (such as Imageshack). Once you upload it, use a URL shortening site such as bit.ly to shrink down the link so you can fit it into your Twitter message. Also add "#screenshotsaturday" into your message, so people can find your screenshot by searching the rest of the Screenshot Saturday posts.

It's on again! (now wondering if i can post anything decent as i've been working on music/gameplay..)

btw does anyone know how to mitigate against people spamming the hashtag? One person appears to have posted 3 different pics of an Android desktop. Maybe it's a really subtle game.

I think that Android thing might be an app or something, somebody also posted a photo of a cat. Concerned

I don't know if you can really do anything about it unless you make a web page that shows all images with the tag and then manually block non-games.

Yeah, just wondering how these sorts of hashtag "events" can be moderated, and worried that it will turn into a spamfest before too many weeks. I guess the ultimate answer is some moderation of the final "gallery" page.
(I think the android thing is some guy being really happy that he installed a new OS or something)

Definitely don't limit the number of people/projects that can contribute!

But it might be worth limiting it to one tweet per user, and maybe limiting it to Saturday only?

(And it'll probably need some spam filtering before long, or someone will post pron or something unpleasant...)

It's a cool idea though, a little bit more motivation to stop slacking and have something new to show next week!  And Pekuja's done a sweet job with that gallery Smiley
