could be about how people use their own bodies as batteries that power their own robot suits.
Or about a space station powered by teenage angst

I think the idea was taken from my suggestion of 'Adventure in an unconventional post-apocalyptic world'. So yes. Basically, just go crazy, avoiding generic sci-fi ideas that have been done before. Just a bizzare sci-fi world.

What does "unconventional scifi" even mean anyway? I've been trying to think of scifi that would be considered unconventionnal but I can't.
space habitat with design from the 70s
70's sci fi in general
1870's Sci Fi.
The universe as an apple.
robot space pimps.
Basically anything that's not Halo or Mass Effect, I guess?

Sixth! I'm with you, JMickle.
I'm infatuated with flooded/overgrown cities, myself, but I hear those are hard to draw. Another possibility would be a setting where people have forgotten how technology works and it's become "magic", but that's not exactly untrodden ground.
Maybe take that last idea and mix it with this crazy thing I just thought of: plants as technology. Tools and computers are engineered to be grown from seeds and powered by sunlight. Not much of a comic premise, though.
...
Failing all else, "get out of surrealism free cards" could do us well. World holes, dreamscapes and reality corruptors.
Another idea: A dramatic plotline built around two protagonists, one of whom alters reality when she falls asleep. The other tries desperately to keep her awake as they quest for a solution, but dangers constantly manifest as she nods off. All kinds of crazy stuff can happen (fun for artists and writers!) but the story will still have a direction and resolution.
