Became enraged because Photoshop wasn't obeying my commands. Promptly downloaded GIMP.

Hey, you try making sprites with Photoshop 7.0. It's TERRIBLE. When used to GIMP, it works quite well for that sort of thing. Well, good enough for me, anyways.

Scary pic, by the way.

I've never been able to get used to GIMP. It's unfortunate, because it means I can't code (which I do in Linux) and make art (which I do on PS CS3/4 on Windows) at the same time with only one computer. And I've only had one computer for a long time.

I'm planning on doing GSoC with GIMP this year and they are doing some really cool stuff under the hood right now. Basically GIMP is getting a complete overhaul on how it works and a subsequent GUI redesign by some really talented people (the guy in charge of the new GUI runs a UI design firm). The infrastructure is all becoming graph based, and while the main interaction methods will remain largely the same, operations will become non-destructive, meaning you can rearrange the order in which they are done or modify parameters of operations many steps down the stack. Eventually it may even be possible to do all your image editing with a raw node-editor, like the shader editors in Blender or Unity.

Edit: just spent a while getting sound working on a relatively new archlinux install

awesome, that sounds great. GIMP could really use it. I can't stand the floating windows.

It's still in a conceptual and development phase, so there wouldn't really be any screenshots (the operation stack I talked about is still being actively debated on the mailing lists), but there might be some mockups floating around.

I see, I'll keep an eye on it then.
