Hello!
I have a little issue: I want to put in the title screen one of those game name announcer voice (like those in 1980 arcades, or the one in Street Figther 4, that scream STREEEEEEEEEET FIGHTEEEEER FOOOOOOOUUURR!!!! when the name of the game shows up on the screen).
But I am not figuring how to do it, where to find real people to do it, or how to do without real people.

I guess you could record anyone with a ballsy voice, and then add some reverb to the recording.

Assuming you're talking about the UT2k4 / Halo / Etc super manly style announcer, I'd also compress it to hell, shift the pitch down a step, and add a very slight hint of chorus. Maybe I'll throw an example together later today once I finish my final.

Do you have a sample line for us that you're going to want in the game?

I think that would be a decent idea.

I believe you could do it yourself. Use a program like, uhmm... Audacity and tinker with the settings like pitch and speed and such. Most of the time you'll end up with a satisfactory voice that you can edit more.

Or you could record someone with a normal voice and pitch the recording down. That's how they did it in Quake 3. The announcer is someone from id, Tim Willits I think.

I didn't think of pitch-shifting back then because I like my balls natural. Woah. Yeah pitch-shifting is probably the way to go.

A heavy accent can give games great amounts of personality.

I have a high-quality mic setup and can record some voice files for your game, and even edit them how you like if you need someone to do that for you. If all you need is the voice without editing, I can easily have it done in 24 hours. Otherwise, shouldn't take too long.
People may enjoy your accent more, though, your decision.
