@broadcastbrian2 this is for non indie games. for indie games go to this thread.

Bad Company 2
Fallout: New Vegas
Mafia 2
Mass Effect 2

Ugh nearly all of the AAA games of 2010 I played were sequels. These are the only ones I felt that were good enough to warrant a mention.

Hmm. I really only played Dead Rising 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. I don't really remember if L4D2 came out last year or not though... Either way, both were highly enjoyable.

I'm not entirely sure the games I've bought do qualify for the 2010 rule. I think the only ones would be Starcraft, Mass Effect 2 and Darksiders. While Starcraft is a pretty decent game, I wouldn't go as far as putting it into any top 10. Mass Effect 2 is decent as well but lacks a thrilling main story. The sidemissions were awesome but the mainplot bored me to death. Planet Scanning not included for reasons of profanity overload.

Darksiders on the other hand was real surprise and treat. There's nothing original about this game, every bit has been ripped from some other game and grafted into one big single title and somehow it just works. It's been copied so well and small improvements were made were necessary. In the end, I had a blast playing it. Pity its one of those drop'n run console ports. Still, its in my top 10 list for 2010. It's actually got my only vote.

Vanquish is crazy awesome. It's basically Gears of War: The Arcade Game and has one of the most satisfying control schemes/movesets ever. Sliding around in your suit never gets old. I wish the scoring system was deeper though.

Probably Halo Reach, but I'm waiting for a patch to fix it.

Damn, I forgot Dorksiders came out this year. Make that my 11th game out of 10 or something. Also, I thought the whole "ripoff" thing was a bit overplayed by the press/internets trolls. Really, there are very few games that do anything but combine elements from other games and I don't feel Darksiders is any more derivative of Zelda or God of War than Sonic is derivative of Mario.

I think the only non-indie game I played this year was Arkham Asylum. Was that 2010 or 2009?

Regardless, it was the best non-indie game I played this year by default.

Metro 2033.

Mass Effect 2 was alright... it was fun, but I felt like there was the potential for a lot more. The suicide mission, for example, was a cool idea, but it was far too easy to complete flawlessly on your first try, especially if you're used to being a completionist with RPGs like I am.

Starcraft II was also alright, but I didn't really get to play the singleplayer enough to make a final decision, and I'm not a big fan of the multiplayer.

So yeah, Metro 2033 was my favorite non-indie GOTY.

I really liked Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Very little like traditional Castlevania (though if I hear another retard complaining about its linearity when the original game was itself completely linear I'll have to slap some bitches), and also had very little in the way of slightly unique mechanics (the Focus Gauge and its magic-restoring capabilities is about all that comes to mind), but hell if it's not a crazy trip. Totally getting DLC for that.

If they scratch the whole fucking Titans fights, though, I'll be a happy man. Someone apparently didn't understand how Shadow of the Colossus really worked and just slapped together something that 'kinda' resembles it. I also require better bosses.

Mass Effect 2 was great and I still have Dragon Age Awakening before me. Starcraft 2 had a great campaign, though I didn't get into the multiplayer (yet).

Right now Cataclysm has me hooked, it's great to come back to such a great expansion after a pretty long break as a player who played it right from the beginning. It's a bold move on their side and in my opinion a great success.

I just bought Bad Company 2 in the Steam sale and even though I haven't played much I think it's still one of my favourite games of 2010. Just incredible fun. More so than Black Ops even though that obviously has a stronger plot.

Other than that I haven't played much non indie games on the PC. For the Wii I liked No More Heroes 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Monster Hunter Tri and Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

1. Cataclysm
2. Mass Effect 2
3. Starcraft 2
4. Bad Company 2
5. No More Heroes 2
6. Super Mario Galaxy 2
7. Kirby's Epic Yarn
8. Monster Hunter Tri
9. Tatsunoko vs Capcom
10. Black Ops

Yeah not many non-indie games played this year, barely 10 memorable ones, many just recent.

For me the best non-indie game was Super Mario Galaxy 2.  Amazing polish.  Although to be honest, this year I still mostly played TF2 Smiley.  I guess the way the devs keep releasing content it continues to feel new.
