Playing Halo Reach with new-found friends made me a lot less lonely this year. I've played entirely too much of that game. Donkey Kong Country Returns was decent, and the only other noteworthy non-indie game I've played this year. Oh, Red Dead Redemption was pretty neat too, I guess.

league of legends is an indie game, no? it's popular, but has a small team and is self-published.
i met the dev team of LoL once online, podunkian was applying for a job with them and we all played the game. someone on the dev team (i forget who) mentioned that he was a fan of my game immortal defense, which was amazing; but they seemed like a pretty small team, so it'd surprise me if they aren't considered indie
the game was also released october 2009, it's not a 2010 game

I don't know release dates/years, since I don't play a lot of non-indie games but these are all games I played this year and liked
-Red Dead Redemption -Dead Space -Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands -Starcraft II -Uncharted 2
also someone mentioned wanting to play Enslaved earlier.
I can help you recreate the feeling and save you some money.
>Go downtown in the nearest big city.
>Find a crazy homeless bum
>Ask him about chinese folklore
>For the duration of the time he's talking to you, look at pictures from case studies of steroid abuse with one hand and jerk off using a cheese grater with another
Okay now you've played Enslaved

S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat came out early into the year, but it remains as my favorite game of 2010. The atmosphere is just incredible and you just can't get a similar experience from any other game out there.
Honorable mentions: Lost Planet 2 - an absolute blast for local co-op. Also, neither I nor my friend can understand the bitching about controls seen in many reviews, because honestly, the controls are logical and we never had any problems aiming and shooting wherever we wanted to. Also, gets lots of bonus points for level design that isn't afraid of using large vertical differences, which feels incredibly fresh when you compare it to pretty much any other third-person shooter that are mostly single-level playgrounds with extremely minor or superficial height differences. Big minus for Capcom though for taking out split-screen multiplayer from the PC version.
Blur - I bought it from a Steam sale without thinking too much about it. After I started playing I fell in love - this is honestly the most fun arcade racing games I've played in ages and extremely balanced and polished in every aspect. The only minus is the lack of single-player arcade mode. Also, it includes local four-player splitscreen on PC, which is so rare that it has to be mentioned. Seriously, four-player splitscreen, on a modern game, on PC? How often do you see that even on a console?
Disappointment of the Year: Metro 2033. I'd paste my lengthy review of it but I don't have it at hand right now, and it's quite long so I think I'll just make a separate post later. But to summarize, I had great expectations for this game, and it managed to crush every single one of them, even after giving it one chance after another. Consolization, extreme linearity that shines through everywhere, predictability and tons of small annoying things ruined this game, it's atmosphere and potential pretty much completely. Sure, it had pretty visuals, but that doesn't really make it any better. There's style, but no substance. And that's a damn shame, because I really wanted to like this game.
The most rage-inducing game of the Year: Metroid: Other M. I expected it to be bad from the trailers and previews, but actually playing it was even more jarring and annoying. It had a couple fun moments here and there, but overall it felt very little like a Metroid game, moved forward on very tight rails, had a horrible (and horribly told) story and repeated itself way, way too much. Easily the worst Metroid game ever.

I recently beat Darksiders, and I must say I was somewhat surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I'm not a huge fan of games in which combat also makes you have to handle to camera in addition to dealing with enemies, but eventually I managed. It looks hella good to boot.

I got Demon's Souls this Christmas, but I can already say it's going to be one of my favorite games this year. It's just excellent. No other game keeps me on my toes like this one, not even Monster Hunter.
Red Dead Redemption was surprisingly fun for me. Surprisingly, because I usually don't like GTA that much. Must be the western setting.
Bayonetta was also a blast to play, and I loved how it built a complex and highly skill-demanding combat system using very basic mechanics, that were easy to grasp even for a action game newbie like myself.
Monster Hunter Tri was great, but I was a little disappointed by the amount of content compared to the PSP releases.
