How about this:

Remix a song from a game... only with SFX from that game. So like, if I did a Mario song, I'd have to use the Mario SFX.

This thread has a lot of potential, that brought about some good stuff. So I'll try setting another challenge:

Make a Theme Song for a Sci-Fi Action Game In 3/4 Time (Like a Waltz)

I'm having a hard time imagining what that would sound like without going full-on Blue Danube in 2001 A Space Odyssey, but I'd like to see what people can come up with.
Since I happen to have a Sci-Fi action game in need of music, I am most definitely in on this.
Okay, I'm a bit later than expected, but I did it! It sort of almost fits the game - http://www.toeofdoom.com/ludumdare/19/pianomusic.ogg
I may add bass and fake drums at some point...

I like this one
My piano sounds a lot like yours by the way

Here's my contribution to the 3/4 thing.

I don't really know how to mix or anything

I did end up adding bass to it  Shrug I wonder if it was a good idea, but I think it works better in the game at least: http://www.toeofdoom.com/ludumdare/19/bassandpiano.ogg

Did you really need to save that as a .wav though? >.> I'll probably come back with an edit when it finished downloading! EDIT: Sounds a bit odd, almost atonal? It would definitely fit some games quite well, if they're meant to be tense or spooky.

Reedit: The game with that song in it is out: http://www.kongregate.com/games/MattElveyPrice/spacebrick-and-the-window-to-the-stars Smiley

This thread basically forced me to register at this forum. I love a good challenge, and I feel like I'm in a bit of a slump, so this seems like a good way to stoke the fires and start rocking again. I'm going to try one of the challenges this week and see what I can come up with.

Here's my shot at the first challenge. I'd actually been trying to get myself to use less tracks as of late, so this has been quite a beneficial exercise!

I may give the second one a shot, as I kinda love 3/4.

Another battle theme. To be honest, it has two channels. I didn't need another square, as I couldn't find out how to make it sound decent with it.

OK. NEW CONTEST: MAKE A BEUTIFUL EXPLORATION THEME THAT IS CALM( JUST NOT GRIM, OK?) AND DOES NOT USE DRUMS(OR THE LIKE). SPECIAL EFFECTS CAN BE USED.

"Make a Theme Song for a Sci-Fi Action Game In 3/4 Time"

I took some liberties with the 3/4 requirement.
