Poor guy's name is Crapmunch, because that's what he does, eat crap, with a shovel.  Here's a pic of him in game.

Both of your monsters are really great!  Hand Thumbs Up Right I think you should try to increase contrast between background and monsters.

Yeah, I gotta work on the idle today.  Other animations needed include...
-a shovel smack
-he scoops crap off the back wall and flings it
-bite down
-Monsta(main character) struggling in his mouth
-spit Monsta out
-walk
-power punched in the gut
-power uppercuted
-pain flinch
-death  Evil

As for the contrast, I've already tweaked those background colors trying to keep the feel and have the characters pop as much as they can.  Happy medium I suppose.

Yeah the tree is my favourite actually. The boat feels a lot less refined to me. A simple more iconic boat shape might work better in the restrictions?
