This is my dog. This is the first bit of pixel art I have ever made.

I had a lot of trouble with the head, so I kind of stole one from Paul Robertson. However, it still looks bad. Not really sure how to improve the head.

I feel like the back half should be a bit lower. The piece also suffers from pillow shading, or at the very least, incorrect shading. Why are the eyes casting a shadow? Unless they're intentionally bugging out, they should be safely within the skull!

You're also doing some weird antialiasing at the white part of the neck. Don't do that, it just makes it look blurry.

Quick edit:

Things I Did:

Put shadow under jaw to give it more definition.
Made the background legs darker.
Fixed shape of head.
Shaded to more accurately reflect the shape of the dog.
Gave it some chunkiness. Chunkiness is appealing!
Made the length shorter and fiddled with the distance between the legs.

*snip*

That looks awesome!

The foot spacing makes all the difference in the world, and the jaw shadow solves the problem I was having with the snout. Looks really really good. The shading is great as well.

This gives me a bit to study. Much appreciated. Smiley

This is my dog, by the way. The white does wrap around to his back, and there is some white up between his eyes.

IMPOSSIBLE.

But really, thanks so much for the help. I've already learned a lot from it.

Rabbit that is pretty good for your first pixel art ever. Great edit too John. It's crazy how much defining a light source and a bit of shading can give something volume and really make it pop.

Thanks guys! Some really awesome pixels here.

What? Dogeevee is evolving!

Dogeevee evolved into Largerdogeevee

Haha, nice man!
For a pokemon-like MMORPG in the making!

If any pixel artists are interested and would like to help out, feel free to PM me. Most I can offer is a fun experience and profit-share, though.
those are so rad dude. Imma warn you that 100+ is a huge project, but I hope you stick with it. I'm redoing the red/blue sprites atm, but kinda wish I'd put that energy into original critters. My only crit so far is that first guy looks too much like eevee.
Thank you man. Yea, I agree that 100+ is really ambitious but I plan on sticking to it. I will probably end up getting other artists to help out though if anyone can mock the style. In fact, I was going to ask you if you'd be interested in making a couple whenever? Would be awesome. Just gotta keep them 80x80, everything else would be up to you.

Wow.

Pretty.

I'm not good at this, but here is my first attempt at creating a character.

Edit: The actual walking animations:

Up and down sorta work, but right and left are truly horrible...

Yea I realize that now. I did the animation directly on the sprite sheet never actually viewing it animated.
Here is an updated animation I did after reading up on 2-frame walk cycles.

This is a really cool pic, but the face is quite hard to read. I think the pure white is hurting it the most, as I initially wondered if it represented the whites of eyes (with the mouth as pupils). After several seconds it clicked that the block in the middle was a mouth and that the two tiny black pixels sticking out of a big black block of hair were eyes (at least I think that's the correct reading) but I doubt I would have reached that conclusion if I hadn't seen sprites in Fez (or Tiny Tower) that use a near-identical arrangement of pixels for their faces.

Anyway, that's my one little critique!
