You don't have to tell me, I studied fine arts. But let's put this in perspective: is this guy stealing somebody's work and selling it through his website? Is he using it in his portfolio he sends to potential employers? No. He traced an animated sprite as part of a tutorial, and didn't mention that. Slap on the wrist, don't do it again, move on. Agreed?
And for the record, I wasn't saying you were dickish in your posts - you were calling him out in a reasonable manner. I was talking about a few other posts with more aggressive accusations that have since been removed. Which makes me look like I'm accusing the remaining replies...
It would be a slap on the wrist if he admitted to any of it. All he's doing is denying it under the guise of using a tutorial. Even under the assumption that someone put ben2theedge's frames on a tutorial, he could have said he traced it from a tutorial instead of saying he made it, seemingly from scratch. The seriousness of this comes from him lying about the origins of the animation, and continually denying that it's stolen directly or traced from somewhere else, not from how he's using it. Seasons said it before but we're fine with editing work, as long as you give credit where credit is due. EDIT: I'm not going to continue fighting about this. I can't even believe I'm arguing with a fellow artist about art theft.

Agree. He isn't taking responsibility.

Hybrid? I think I know you from somewhere :V It looks nice but it's really empty. Also, I think you should post here.

EDIT: I'm not going to continue fighting about this. I can't even believe I'm arguing with a fellow artist about art theft. As far as I can see we weren't really disagreeing to begin with. I was only saying the guy deserves the benefit of doubt, and you give good arguments for why he spoiled his chances in that regard. Apologies if it appeared like I was trying to pick a fight with you over this subject - as I've already stated two times by now: my original post was aimed at the aggressive tone of other posts that have since been removed. Words of praise for fish-food?

Newbie indie spriter GO! 3 hours of work, 2 and a half of those hours was figuring out the god dang pattern of the tiles and what do do with the sky ;-; Heavy WIP, will update maybe....Later today? With a few sprites I guess (Not planning on doing anything with these until I learn a progamming language). Their is something I find endearing about that, it looks like something out of indie action

Hybrid, I really like your choice of colors, but if I am to come with some feedback, the grass and dirt is kinda repetetive and really busy. In my personal taste, you could have it a bit more varied and with less detail. Just my opinion though! Really digging the moon!

Still trying to find my style. I would really appreciate any color and pixel feedback. Ninja standing in a ninja stance. Pretty sure it abides to 8-bit sprite colors.

best piece of advice you can get on this is to stop dont worry about developing your own style worry about improving e: what i mean is, focusing on developing a style before you're confident in yourself as an artist is very stupid

Thanks, I know exactly what you mean. I just really worry that it will look to much like artist x or game x. I will stop worrying about that.

Exactly this. What's more, don't make the mistake so many people make of assuming that working with low-fi pixel art precludes an understanding of the fundamentals (not saying you are, but a lot of people seem to). If you want to draw a ninja, even a tiny, three colour ninja, an understanding of anatomy is key. Study, then reap the rewards! ♥

Where does one go to learn the fundamentals?
I am worried about improving, that is why I posted it in the pixel art thread to try and get feedback and learn more about the fundamentals, what I am doing wrong, and what I can do better.
To me, finding my style means making something that I am comfortable with that fits the project I am working on. I get that one finds their style through practice and getting better. I am not really worried about nailing that or making a unique piece of art that screams "this was made by Brett." I just want to get better and more comfortable at creating pixel art.

i figured someone would have replied to this already!!! basically when you're improving, don't worry about your work looking too similar to someone else's work. taking influence from other people is a very good thing! part of developing your own style is looking at the style of others and figuring out what exactly you like about it so that you can incorporate it into your own work
