This is my first foray into pixel art and my first time into animation.  I put it up on opengameart.  Feel free to let me know what doesn't look right here, it's the only way I'll learn!

Thats good for first into pixel art and animation.. I made some edit for you that you can learn from it.

My sprite is pretty big so...

Awesome!
Just so I know - how big are sprites normally?  I felt like mine was a bit small.

There is no limitation but if you want to make it for games then i I recommend doing a smaller sprites but its it also depends on the game.. My santa edit is more suitable for fights and beat em up games.

Artistic version.

The sprites is pretty beautiful but if evolution style are same as pokemon then you should make bigger body, different paws, tail, eye, ears and change little bit of your palettes.

No, I should clarify, it's not a pokemon-fan game. The monsters I make for it are my own and this game will not be related to pokemon in any way except inspiration.

Thanks. Smiley

Some tiles I was playing with a few months back. My first real pixel things that I tried to make consistently coloured. They aren't nearly detailed enough I don't think.

What do you guys think? Purple.

I think it looks quite nice, and has a pleasing retro feel IMHO. Reminds me of early DOS for some reason.
Purple.
Is Awesome. Fragments are so.

trying to limit my use of outlines and learn how to sprite "proper" pixel art.

its fun testing the readability of things in limited pixels

Well, since I never got a response earlier, I'll just assume that its because I forgot to upscale:

Also, its a PNG this time.

Well, should I make more sprites of my characters like this? Either way, I probably won't be using them for anything.

Great stuff, Landshark. Only thing I would suggest changing is the ground tiles- the two colors used contrast with each other too much, and variations in the grass tufts might be useful too.

Hey everyone, I'm trying to become more active on the forums. I've been a long time reader but haven't posted much! This is an image I made just for fun last week sometime, what do you think?

Not sure why it looks a little smudgy on here, it looks fine in the original...
