I find the dithering in the sky very distracting. The rocket looks nice though.

EDIT: Also, those tiny cars are super cute.
Agreed on all points. I think the dithering distracts because above and below the gradient it it's fully monochrome, and those parts are larger so the contrast between the two is distracting. I would try increasing the size of the gradient, or use randomised dithering instead of a pattern.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Any tips on generating / creating large dithered gradients? My attempts couldn't get much longer than that without breaking down..

Also; some things to avoid.

This is very cool! Although the shading could use a little work, the light source isn't very defined (some areas of the robot seem to be getting light from totally different directions) so some parts look a little flat. Overall though, a pretty good piece.

EDIT:

@Isaac: those asteroids look rad. also, I'd recommend just using more shades for the sky, or you could integrate cloud shapes into the actual shading like this: http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/43859.htm

Already put this up on this forum, but for this thread too since it's relevant.

Fantastic, Isaac. The gradient is much smoother and less distracting.

I had the thought that you could make the blue flame coming from the thruster flicker or snap, or leave a trail behind it. The rocket feels somewhat still.

But I love the way that climb looks.

@Isaac: The gradient is much better now, but looks pretty static. You could try to scroll it down until space is reached and everything fades to black.

@Medevenx
Excellent pixel work! The forms read clearly and the colors pop, I really like how the eyes have that blue rim around them.

Tried something different. There's something missing from it, maybe there should be shadows on the forests or something.

You just have to cut it off before the good part. I love rotoscoped looking 2D animation.
