Haven't posted here in a while, been doing a lot of client work. It's all pixel stuff, but I've been posting it into my portfolio thread so I didn't want to spam everyone with copies of the same image.

Some crest designs from a game I'm working on that's currently fairly dormant.



These feel like they'd be right at home in an Amiga game. Think they remind me of The Settlers a bit. Very nice!

Don't worry about what people think of gradients. If you like the look of them, use them. One suggestion is to clean up your lines a little bit though. They're currently a little messy.

I hate the guy! I can't even sprite him! Next two heroes are gonna be STR and INT again lol



Started on this guy. Made Storm Spirit a bit fatter and changed Axe's head to not face the screen.

the gradient are the best part in the image Tongue
Gradient is not evil, misuse is evil, and even misuse can be turn into a style if you real run for it. So if people don't like gradient, you can drop it, OR find out why it doesnot work and crank it up to 11

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to keep fixing up the lines a bit. Also any ideas on how to add depth? It's supposed to be a pretty flat scene but maybe not this flat?

More overlapping year with object at different distance is the easy fix, a bit of a more perspective on the car and road for the hard fix

Which is better? The body isn't really done yet, I'll always change it. Now I'm looking at which size looks better. I feel as if the larger one is too big for the other characters to measure with. I don't think Pudge is supposed to be THAT much larger than Axe anyway.

As gimym said, having objects in the distance will give a very good perception of depth. Try adding another one of those cliff edges in the background. Take the same picture of that mountain, flip it, and alpha it so it's slightly transparent. It gives the illusion of pollution haze and adds distance. I use this trick ALL the time.
