Working on ground tiles for my game.

I don't think these will work out so well, and I think I can keep working to get closer to a better style, but for now, these will do. These are the only grass ones I've felt okay with so far.
I also tried designing a 16x16 turntable. I'm not so sure about it right now, but this is the best version so far.

I've already tried animating the record spinning and it looks good, but I'm trying to figure out how to make this look a bit better. I've got several different versions made already that I've scrapped, including this one with a needle and a plate under the record, but it felt a bit messy to me.

Also made this quick mechanic mock up. The poses are mostly just quickly improvised and the last one with the goat character isn't even possible, but I wanted to see what it'd look like. I might try animating this and cleaning it up for a fully polished moving mockup so I have some in game animations ready for when I get started putting it together.

I was considering putting together a devlog, but I don't even have a programmer yet and it's just me so far so I think that'd be a bit stupid of me, though I have seen a few projects posted which haven't begun with a programmer, but I'm still very uncertain if that may be frowned upon if I do it this early.

@Sajextryus
I think I've seen your artwork somewhere already, and I must say, I love it.
If I give up on my project, you might just get a programmer to help you out Smiley

Hey dudes, new here!  Me and a buddy are working on our first game, this is the main character.  The game evolved out of the latest Global Game Jam, we saw promise so we are currently fleshing it out.  Love any crits you could give.

i was there

typically you don't want to use pure black lines, but because you are using these bright colours it works pretty well. you should show the sprite in the context of the game.

Thanks, Landshark.  Yeah I'll post an in game screen as soon as we get this current design in build, thanks for the feedback. As for the black outline, I really needed the character to pop so that's why I used the strong black.

@zephyr Thanks, though I'm looking for someone with experience with C#/XNA and Mono for this project. That's pretty cool how you've seen it somewhere else, as I've rarely ever seen my stuff shared much at all by anyone, though I did notice a post in a thread on NeoGAF where someone was talking a bit about my project, which was pretty dang cool to read!

I tried revising a bit of a mockup I slapped together the other day.

Here's a link to the first version I uploaded with a couple different options picked for things and the grass tile below the raised tile is missing, which wouldn't be so common in the game since that's a bit limiting and I want a very open world. I also used an alternate, more simply shaded version of the sprites to see how those would look.

It's still missing a lot of stuff I'm hoping to have in the game scenery-wise, but I was mainly just trying to test out the grass. I'm trying to make a lot of very tall trees and such for the background since a lot of the world is a forested area, though there will be areas with open skies like this, like the tops of mountains and trees and such. It's still likely I'll redesign the grass at some point, but for now I should just worry about working on the world design, cause it's pretty large.

^ I think you could use more contrast on the shades you have on the grass - they're pretty similar in color as far as I can see. I think the grass itself could also be darker, as that bright green at the top is a bit distracting, I think. I think you could also do with one less dark green shade on the lizard guy on the left (particularly where his legs meet). Otherwise, it's pretty good.

inkjets in progress ... C+C on the art are welcome. As well as on gameplay if you know how to run homebrews for the Nintendo DS.
