I've been trying to make this little dudette stand idly by. But it's haaaaaard. Suggestions for how to improve the animation are welcome.

haha, no, don't make her do the idle animation dance.
At that resolution, why do you think she needs an idle animation? A blink should do the trick just fine. And maybe a little "bored" animation playing after a while.

Knocking out a quick skeleton sprite, and a 'shadow' sprite too, with some placeholder bricks for a background

thatshelby: Moving pixels in this resolution seemed to make a way too exaggerated effect. I searched for small idle animation and found that Metal Slug just moved the light points for great effect. schoq: I just wanted to see if I could do an idle animation at that size. I changed a few details around the arms, hurried the frames by 0.05 seconds and added some extra frames for blink. Thanks It's much better now.

Sad Stanley: It's supposed to look like it's breathing: Arms going up and down, chest expanding, head tilting ever so slightly

Things don't move by placing it under a disco ball, you have to move the forms to make it dance, which doesn't force you to change the res. Moving the belly up with a bit of the outline to make breathing magically appear.
To me, right now, it looks like a timelapse of you adding detail.

Upper vs lower, also, this doesn't look that terrible. (so it might be final art style for echro)

Lower one is more earthy while the upper one contrasts the bricks and the dirt

i made an edit of the colors, just slightly. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9942053/cellusious%20edit.pngi also put it at 1x and 2x for you. Before, the tops of the bricks were very very very bright at 1x. so i toned them down. i didn't think there was enough contrast with the two colors on the highlights of the brick, so i merged it to 1. i also changed the darkest green but i dont remember why i still think you have some superfluous colors with the mid-range browns in the bottom set of colors. - i'm not sure why you scale it 5x. it looks good at 1x and at 2x. better, i think. I don't see any difference. -- Playing around.

Knives? (<3) Those floor tiles are looking really nice, i'd love to see your things 1x-2x more often... its far easier to appreciate.
