Looking for a bit of advice on something I'm working on...
I've been redoing some old pixel art of mine but at a larger scale and I'm struggling with this sprite. The front gun and back boosters have the level of detail I'm happy with but the smooth red surface just doesn't seem to match up.

Also I'm not sure if it needs a little more contrast in the shades of red

Put some decals/circles on the outer shell?

The original shape is really simple and cartooney, so making it look all realistic is going to look wierd regardless.

The new one looks good to me.

Thinking of changing the art style of the character I am doing:

This isn't what you asked for advice on, but consider something like this

what you're doing currently with the transition just emphasizes the jaggy edges and should generally be avoided.

I did what I could with the colours you have in there already, but if you added another colour or two, or otherwise adapted your palette for this you could make something much more effective and nicer looking.

Iv'e been commissioned to do artwork for a game. I was specifically chosen apparently because they wanted my "style" for this project. When describing what they wanted they mentioned that they would like something similar to this: http://art.ngfiles.com/images/164/captain-carrion_fenceline.png

I tried making a palette similar to the one used for my game without completely copy/pasting the aesthetic. I wanted to know what you guys thought. Do you think this looks too similar to the mockups for my other game or is it just me?

Sorry for the shitty picture, this is a really rough mockup. I'll be adding more to the background and the character is likely to change as well.

It's still your style, but the colour range and other details are sufficiently different to me. Looks good so far!

Well done on getting the commission also. Smiley

Maybe tone down the blue saturation and shift everything a little more towards green/brown?

Or add some orange to complement.

This is probably another problem involving my monitor. Everything already looks really brown to me....

Another design for the character I've posted earlier. I'm not sure about the design, but this is most likely the style I will stick with.

I'm having the same problem, I feel your pain /:
My monitor makes everything have barely any saturation and dull. While on everyone else monitor it looks really vibrant and colorful. I usually upload the picture to my itouch to see what the colors is on everyone elses screen.
Maybe you can do the same if you have a smartphone?

A few colors from Arne's pallete, a few from around the net and alot of colors stolen from my own art.

i would love a tread where you make art using a pallete the previous poster posted for you after making art of the previous pallete by the previous poster, and so forth. If anybody else could post that, Because most of you have a built up hate for me, which i understand., That would be awesome.

Problem is people would need to do two art pieces.
Because if it was one piece, and if I use the palette you used, and you used the palette before you, we'd be using the same palette as the first guy

*Use the previous pallete*
*Provide a pallete for the next person*

Something like that, i had in mind.
