thanks, I wanted the colors to stand out, and went with a bit of a pastel feel.

ahh would you mind going into detail how you chose colors for that underpainting-like phase?

The first part where I was playing with the colors? hm.. At first I had very vivid colors because I was focusing on just the color, and chose one color for each part of the color spectrum basically. I felt it needed something to subdue the color a bit because it felt too intense and I knew I wanted something with a subtle feeling. So while my intent was on making the color stand out, I wanted it to stand out without feeling harsh or abrasive. To do this, I needed to introduce methods of mixing them- combining hues, and introducing greys- thus reducing their intensity.. I messed with it a bit and finally found a combination and balance that I enjoyed looking at and that I thought would represent the type of environment I was going to draw.
If you want to know specifically about the bright colors at the very beginning, I use yellow and cyan as the brighter values, because those are positioned towards the light when light spectrum is separated. The red and blue are positioned away from the light and towards the shadow when the light spectrum is separated into color. Also, some other interesting observations I've made in the past is that yellow/red are warm, and located opposite the cyan and blue which are cool.. Green and magenta are neutral colors, neither warm nor cool.
Everything has an opposite, basically.. So while light gets separated, it is separating itself in many ways, in a balanced fashion- I try to work with that balance I guess to find the middle and reveal from it something new. That's my intent anyways.. not sure if I'll ever succeed.

I'm surprised and pleased with myself.  Big improvement over the other day.

I think getting the rather subtle technique of applying a lightened outline only to very specific pixels was key.

Probably because it's acting as a form of antialiasing.

Awesome stuff, love the way the colors look totally random yet work out to be okay.
Quick question, though, how do you export the process / what software are you using?

thanks
I use my own pixel editor I created..
http://www.pixel.tools/
it records your entire process, and you can export the playback of it to a gif file.

That's pretty good. I think you should keep the outline color consistent. Make the lighter blue outline color visible on the light parts of her hair, and the darker blue on the dark parts. Shade her legs some, and use the orange-ish light outline color for the light parts of her legs and arms, and the current dark brown for the dark parts. Having those odd light outline pixels is a bit strange.

@Ellian - Real nice and clean!

@Cow - Your technique is excellent.
