I second getting the Animator's Survival Kit. It's chock full of useful stuff for the craft, especially 2d work.

cheap to. its $20 on amazon and i had to pay 40 at our Campus bookstore. if you need more help I can probably send you some pictures that might help a lot more. also work by Muybridge will really help too. much more realistic though.

Decided to do some pixels today, mostly so I don't get rusty. A bit of sub-pixel stuff goin' on there with the running animation, but I could've done better. Also, lack of pupils is just weird, but meh. I didn't realize it while making it, but I'm sure this was inspired by Knite's stuff somehow. It's just... his style. 5 Colors in the run, 9 in the portrait. Sweet dude! Love the animation. The portrait cracks me up

Yeah, I agree with your suggestion with the Animator's Survival Kit. In fact, it's what I used when starting the animation. I went back, and I think I've finally fixed the flaws with my walk. Soon I'll animate the head (which looks silly since it doesn't rotate or bounce at all), and go right into the details. EDIT: Updated the walk to be more natural. Sort of a brisk and determined animation.

This works very well if your character has the world's strongest feet. Here are some Muybridge photos for comparison.

Yeah, I agree that the walk there isn't exactly realistic. But the Animator's Survival Kit does mention that it was extremely exaggerated, for demonstration purposes. Because when you're first learning animation, subtleties are harder to notice. Or that's what I figured anyways. I added details to the animation. Needs scarf action and head bobbing soon. EDIT (after quoted): Whoops, I meant to say "head bobbing" not "hair bobbing". The head is currently just copy-paste.

Good pixel detail, but his head looks like a copy-paste picture on a moving body.

Yes, that's because the head IS copy-pasted. :D
That's one of things I was going to look at soon. XD Also I need to fix that back leg or something, it looks broken.

Yeah, it looks like his left leg is made of rubber... ... not like I could make anything better, though.

hey overkill perhaps a printout of all the frames might help diagnose the leg thing. also i think the shoulder closest to us is to high on the middle area. it looks like he is bringing it up to meet his face.

Okay, now with head motion, and hopefully less rubbery legs. EDIT: Slightly toned down head motion

@Jajitsu, that is so adorable! @Overkill I don't know what it is but there is something about that animation that I Really dislike. Maybe it's just the way he walks like his body turns a lot and the foot doesn't really gives a bend or something >_<
