Can't one use a second layer of sprites in order to make such graphics even on the NES restrictions? Didn't they have to do that in order to make megaman's face flesh-toned?  >_> <_< *feeeeeeeep* You recall nothing.

kevin, you could probably get rid of some of the visual difference between the gritty dirt and the oh-so-clean grass but dropping some pieces of grass onto the grass tiles themselves, like the ones at the base of the tree. Absolutely loving the shading on the tree, too

I dig the sprite. The gameplay video on your site looks a heck of a lot like Bubble Bobble, though. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
