I like the sprites, but they come out way too dark on my monitor, which I've been told is pretty bright. Have you tried using Adam Atomic's NES palette? You can never go wrong there.
Also, something about the tiles doesn't sit right. They're very Mother 3'ish but the sprites look to be NES styled.
Issues in order:
Dark? Yeah, they are. Gonna be dark/light sprites on a light/dark background (The floors are very misleading, I know). Except when everything is just dark, but that'll be on purpose. I don't want people to strain their eyes so much, really, but the sprites actually do have a better feel when you blow 'em up x2. I probably should've done that for here, huh. I'll toy around with 'em for a while and see what I can come up with.
Adam made a palette? Neat. I'll make sure to check that out.
A lot of the world is going to be Mother 3 styled. The only reason that the sprites themselves aren't, is because I want them to contrast sharply with their own world. "For effect" feels appropriate, but I'd be lying if I said that was my main reason. I'll still investigate the palette, but to be honest, I'm not really trying to make NES-like sprites. I'm just trying to make walking and extra movement easier to coordinate, while keeping a sort of easy-going fluidity within the confines of a very limited amount of frames.
It's very similar though, so I'll give you points for that.
Of course, I'm still hammering out a lot of this stuff, so it's always great to get this kind of feedback. Thanks, man.
