Me, I'm just a lowly code monkey without any graphical talent whatsoever, but this thread is just so inspiring that I had to download GraphicsGale and make my first-ever pixel style... thing:

:D

(Actually I started out drawing a robot, must have gotten sidetracked along the way...)

Death usually has better posture, but I quite like yours all the same.  He looks sort of happily expectant (the way he is holding his hands up)

Wait, what... his hands up? I guess you're reading it different from the way I do. Grin Speaking of which, what hands? Wink

OK, this seriously needs a game making out of it.

Ha, now he looks like he's wearing some Victorian-era dress Grin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:1794-1887-Fashion-overview-Alfred-Roller.GIF, last image in second line). Don't really like the face though, to be honest.

I have considered it... the whole game would be in shades of gray, much like the sprite itself, and you are old Mortimer here. The only thing in color would be the souls that you reap, ascending upwards in the shape of crimson butterflies. Wink I think it would look cool. Only thing is, I have no idea how to make that into a game mechanic... The souls could circle you, and you could use them to do.... things. Fling them at enemies, or send them off to do tasks in a more puzzle-like game.

Damnit I'm just no game designer  Angry

:D :D Haha, not until you mentioned it. I knew we had some sort of cognitive dissonance over this whole thing. It's one of those vase/face things if you know what I mean. Just think of the white bits as the parts where the background shines through (which is pretty ridiculous considering he's wearing that wide flowing robe, but anyway), maybe you'll see what I saw. Well at least now I finally know what you guys were talking about...

Anyway, I just fixed him up a bit so he looks more appropriately, uh, grim. Also tried to do a side view but I think it came out all wrong, like a different character entirely. Also, the scythe seems off. Dang this is serious business. It's fun though. Any advice?

heh heh - Fonzerooni death is quite fun - "heyyyyy, you're for the chop tonight" Wink

If its meant to be side on, as in side-on platformer or such like (not iso) then maybe try some guide lines to help match up the body parts on the different views
