This is for a little game I'm making, and I would really like any critique you can give me. I meant for it to look like a crude retro game, which is why I picked the CGA palette. I think the items just look kind of ugly and incoherent. But I want to stick to this resolution, so I'm not sure what to try.

If I was wearing a monocle, I am quite certain I would have dropped it in awe upon seeing this artwork.
First I read it as "If -IT- was wearing a monocle" Cheesy Man, that would've been awesome!

It is a great piece indeed! I'm specially impressed by the stripes on the tiger. They suggest so much
shape and adds to the sense of motion at the same time.

When I'm bored these days, I try to sprite something. It's working and I'm getting better, but I still have a long way to go. I'm very new at it, and I'm learning a lot just by trying it out! It's getting to be more and more fun as I go, too!  Grin

Anyway, here's some good things I've made in the last few days:

sad guy with sadder heart:

floating face, crying (it was a sad week, okay?):

and an ANIMATION!  Big Laff Hand Joystick

Anyway, I know most of you guys can do far better than this, but these are my first "real" attempts at spriting and I would love some feedback and advice. I've found I can only draw small sprites right now; if I go too big, it turns into ugly blobby messy junk. I don't know if this is a common problem or if there is a recommended solution. Any advice in this department would be very appreciated.

The biggest size I think I can go at this point is the floating head's size, and even that has its flaws. I think my lack of skill comes out more in that sprite, but it's still good enough to post.

I understand these things take practice, and I've gotten far better with just the little bit of practice I've had.

Playing around with some other styles.

I know there are quite a bit of things wrong with it still but, I think I'm done with it Tongue

Here is a sprite from something I am working on (the outline and color):

Due to the way I've scaled the graphics in the game, I've had to resprite the character to a much smaller resolution.  Sad

Neat coloring style, reminds me of some of the stuff Atnas does. I'd like to see a mockup with these types of colors.
A very rough try. Going for some Another World architecture

I get mad Heroes of the Lance vibes from this... which is a good thing... it was a state of the art looking game back in the day for the Atari ST/Amiga...

Yeah agree with eobet, definite Heroes of the Lance vibe to these. Loved that game back in the day and these are great.
