Thatshelby - Really nice, simple, and cute! The only problem area is the left-most red bird, which is hard to read because it's overlapping the grey stone slab which is just about the same value as the red bird. Lots of solutions possible, like spacing out the slabs differently, or making the lower right one shorter like the one on the lower right, or making the grey ones lighter, or making the reed birds brighter... Good luck! (and yeah, what are these for anyhow?) Letsap - The silhouettes are clean but the faces are hard to read imho. Delicious - Lovely work! Great design and the details and lighting are super! I agree with Derek's comment about changing the foliage colors, unless you're specifically going for (or have no choice but to go for) a very narrow palette. Bones, Ted Martens, and Kamac - Thanks, glad you like how they came out!

slowly working on this still... That Dragon is amazingly cool, you have got a lot done on the picture already. Resist the urge to put it to one side or give up altogether! It will be worth it in the end :D

Plugging away on this side project. 2D or 3D?
3D: (Image removed to conserve bandwidth; see post below for comparison shots) 2D: (Image removed to conserve bandwidth; see post below for comparison shots)
I want the player to be able to stand on the roofs, so 2D might look a little weird. But 3D also looks a little weird. :I
EDIT: For 3D, I guess I need to draw the sides of the buildings as well...
@Seasons: Also, very cool pillars and birds. They have a lot of personality! :D

Go with 3D. There's a greater consistency between the house and grass ground with the extra depth applied to the roof. If you do that, the house will look like it can be interacted with on first glance. I would've just assumed the house was a background element otherwise.

I'd say lose the scanlines (or at least post a pic here without them for comparison). Looks cool

@thernz - Thanks. I think you're right. @Nix - Thanks. I like the scanlines, though. I'll probably put an option to turn them off. EDIT: But the roof looks weird in 3D. I guess the perspective throws things off... Maybe I'll bump the house up to be closer to the Player's plane of movement, but keep it 2D so that I can keep the perspective. 2D: 3D: @Ashkin - FEZD?

Very nice! It might look even better if you redo the roof texture as a straight grid and make an actual 3D roof?

I like it but what about changing the perspective to orthographic, and have a less detailed ground tile, maybe a flat color with a couple of dots.

Thanks. Yeah, for the 3D effect to work, I would actually have to model the building, as the 3D roof doesn't really work with the rest of it. That takes away from the charm a bit in my opinion, but I'll try it out. I could do that, but I think I want it 3D. Otherwise, I'll go 2D with the buildings. The ground tile might be a bit busy, though. I'll see about refining it a bit more.
