These look great, but I can't help but feel that they're too smooth if you're putting them in a game, or are you gonna make them play faster ingame?

Of course I could be wrong because it's kinda hard to judge withouth seeing it in action.

It shouldn't look "too smooth" unless the rest of the game doesn't follow up consistently.
yep! don't worry about that
even if some of the roughs for animations end up being choppy, I've been (trying at least) to make sure everything animates really smoothly. so hopefully none of it ends up looking out of place in the game
e: and also, we've been doing a bunch of messing with the speed of the animations already to make sure everything works out fine, so hopefully everything feels right.
Also, the attack definitely could use some cool facial expressions, and lots of nice subpixel and secondary animation in the hair and clothes to make it feel really good.
that was the plan, yeah
I wanted to at least get the face/head all drawn in before I got to work on all those minor movements for it

A knight portrait. I've never been good with portraits, so I feel like this could use some improvement. Any tips/critique?

I haven't posted in a while, but here's a recent attempt at some rather Castlevania-inspired sprites.

The colors aren't set in stone, but they'll do for now. The woman is meant to be wearing a ball gown and have blue hair. The man is meant to have red hair with a blue striped feather stuck in the side

Would you mind posting the original size? I'd like to mess around with it.

Needs more highlights! It looks too flat on the left side. Also the angle of the flange at the bottom of the helmet is too steep. Should be more horizontal. Would be cool if you were to add a sagittal crest as well.

You can just scale it down and it'll be lossless since he scaled it up without interpolation.

Alterchera, I am superjelly of your ability to create realistically-proportioned humanoids in such small spaces while still giving them huge amounts of personality. Teach me how to be amazing.

Ah heck, completely forgot to add highlights. I'll work on them now. Also, what the heck is a flange? The chin area?

Ah, the neck area, I see.

I tried flipping the visor around.
This is interesting- the way the visor is pointed downwards makes it seem angry/evil. With the visor pointed that way and some menacing lighting from below, perhaps it would be a good image for an evil knight?
