Today I decided to try and draw some wild animals for my game, starting with a bear. I'm not sure if it looks like one but the general shape it pretty decent I guess. I couldn't shade / dither it anymore because it looked funny. With the extra blue it looked like the bear had rolled around in some blueberries Roll Eyes

That bear looks fine the blues are just in the right spot to sorta look like the highlights on the bear's fur. I'm stoked for this game by the way

This goes in art, since it isn't pixel art.

Hmm, so I'm struggling to keep a consistent art style here.
I like the look of both of em, but do they go well together?
Whaddaya guys think?

Lots of banding on both characters and shades that don't contrast well. I also don't get why you're using such bright outlines for Great Destiny Man (as well as the skin on the wizard).

Bright outlines on the skin or the clothing?

@Storsorgen: Both for Great Destiny Man, only the skin for the Wizard.

shao & TNERB - thanks
Storsorgen - I think they're pretty similar in style. For me, the single short line for the mouths is the unifying element. If the red on the cape was even less saturated and a little brighter (or the fighter outfit was more saturated and a little darker) they'd match even more.

I did the bear sprites in other directions as well. The eyes are bright like that but at least it's noticeable. The left one will be mirrored right.

I'm struggling with hue shifting and getting the right colors, but I'm finding it very hard. This might be alot to ask, but could anyone give me a recolor-advice thingie on the warrior?

The bear should have one glowing eye visible from the side, otherwise the sprites won't really match up. Otherwise, that is the best two-color bear I have ever seen.

@Storsorgen: As far as regular hue shifts go, this is what I use;

For red, I start with a light red/orange into a dark red/purple.

Blues I go from a light blue/green, to a dark blue or a dark blue/purple depending on how far out of the green I start.

For greens I like to start with a light green/yellow and go into a dark green or even a dark green/blue.

Quick Example:

@Storsorgen:

I did a little edit for fun. The character designs are good but the silhouettes were off. The warrior totally looks like a pixel Steven Seagal.

For the hue shifting I started with a saturated base color. When I went darker, I desaturated a bit and went towards blue. When I went lighter, I desaturated a bit and went towards yellow.

I tried conserving colors down to around 8 just to show that you didn't need the 20+ colors you were using for the guys to read effectively. Keep up the good work.

@Seasons: It's Great Destiny Man from Sexual Lobster. I'm also pretty sure he's supposed to look like Steven Seagal, haha.

Seasons, that's an absolutely fantastic version haha :D I love the pudgy look of Great Destiny Man there.  I don't think I could keep up the style though, but you gave me some great ideas on coloring!
