^ I think that would look better without the outline. The mix of resolutions between the outline and the artwork looks kind of cheap. You should leave everything without an outline, like the flower on the right.

Cheers Smiley will remove lines. Wasn't sure about them tbh Smiley

Ok, thanks for your opinions. I'll work with the third guy for now, since I like him the most and it seem you folks do as well. I'll probably tinker with him a bit more, and then it'll be time to animate!

@pgil: The air hose will always be attached, however... You'll have to wait and see just how it affects movement.

was originally for a hack-and-slash platformer game, except I never really got around to programming it.

Pink background is for the sake of seeing the white blade trails.

did you know that there are colours other than ff00ff that contrast white
ones that cause less eye watering

edit: (should have probably mentioned it's a pretty cool design and animation though)

Yes. Sorry if I caused eye-watering, updated with a different background color that's hopefully less absurd. I'm used to pixeling on #FF00FF, so it doesn't bother me at all.

pixelling on such a colour will probably have a big impact on the contrast of your work :/ i find it better working on a more neutral colour, or at least a similar colour to the BG it's going to be on

That makes sense. Never really considered it for pixel art, but when digital painting I always set the background color to whatever I envision the overall tone of the piece to be. Pixel art should probably be the same, even if size / scale is quite a bit different from painting.

Thanks, will keep this in mind for the next work I do.  Smiley

'Till I can completely convince my artist friend about the new direction I have in mind for his game, I'm making placeholder stuff.

If I can convince him about the new direction, the left hand side will be what it gets upgraded to. I always hated the fact I couldn't replicate his art.

From a technical side I think that would be really cool to see in action, Hotline Miami style top-down maybe?

Top down, yes.
Hotline Miami, probably not.

See the game is currently a generic zombie game. Hold out against waves of zombies, blah blah blah.
It just feels slow.
So I was thinking, and watching a bit of Walking Dead, and I though of perhaps a more actual "Survival" zombie game. Build barricades and scrounge for resources.

I hate every tile I've made for my project lately so I took a break and this happened:

Really WIP, the fantasy theme is making digits a bitch for me :\

I was going for something like the white text in the Eye of the Beholder intro, but I didn't actually use it as a reference so it came out a bit different.

Feedback appreciated, the nitpickier the better since I know Jack Smith about typography/typeface design.

Nitpick time! There seem to be some kerning (letter spacing) issues with the lowercase 'i', especially if it's preceded by a 't'. It might just be limitations of bitmap font, or there might need to be some more adjustment for specific letters, as the 'i' looks good in some places and somewhat jarring in others. 'petit', 'puking', and 'identified' has off kerning, while 'bitmap' looks fine.

The lowercase 't' also has some kerning issues, but only with letters that come after the 't' - the spacing with letters preceding it is usually fine (hope that made sense...) the 'th' in 'mother' stands out, as does the double 'tt' in 'Scott'.

The font as a whole looks good, though. Nice job.  Smiley

Although I really like the font I dislike almost every kerning choice. The e doesn't have enough space and the s has too much etc. But kerning is mostly a matter of taste when working on your own font.
I also think you should rework the lowercase "s" and the bottom of the lowercase "t" to make it as awesome as the rest of the font.

@Roc Nice font, fits perfectly or a fantasy game. Reminds me of the old final fantasy games... and mortal kombat (for some reason)

Yeah, the kerning can be definitely better - especially the letter "t" and sometimes "i". It's especially visible on the words "with" and "dissolved".
