Derek, do you mind uploading the pre-downsize version?

Spaceship! Smiley

Quote
I’ve been experimenting with doing pixel art by painting them at double-size before reducing them (Nearest Neighbor) and detailing pixel-by-pixel. While I’m detailing, I’ll reduce the number of colors a few times, too. (This is in Photoshop.) Seems to work alright!

Quite nice, man! Colour count could be waaaay down though, I think. I converted it to 16 col real quick in Gale and it barely lost any detail. Between 16 and 24 should be totally doable. It'll probably get a bit sharper in the process too. It seems a bit muddy in places now.

Love the overall design!

Yeah, I get lazy about the color count, since whenever I try reducing it in PS I end up losing little details I like. Cry

I'll try and fix it up later.

Sure! Here's the original:

Yea, no worries. I think colour count is mostly a thing for when you really want to restrict yourself for a piece (for learning experiences or whatever). 53 is a bit much, I guess. But you're an experienced pixel-artist so I'll let it slide this time Wink

Here's a 24 colour version straight from GraphicsGale, for comparison to your 53 colour one Smiley

That's a million times better than Photoshop's color reduction. Who, Me?

pixels adjust color and alpha slightly and randomly based on current brush colors
it's kind of annoying so I'm turning it off

Yeah, GraphicsGale has some pretty nice colour reduction (and palette manegement in general).

16 Colours for the hell of it:

I think the foreground blocks need to be as dark as the stuff behind it, otherwise I lub it.

i think that would actually harm the visual priority though. it makes it more readable by being lighter.

Indeed~
I actually had several variants before; -same luminosity, a lil more brighter, darker completely different color etc.
The slightly lighter platforms gave the best readability.
