I made some animated gifs from Squaresville the Sifteo game I'm working on. In my engine the level is composed of 8x8 tiles with a foreground and background layer. I can also do a few sprites, the player is a 8x16 sprite with about 10 frames of animation. The fish and rat are 8x8 with 2 frames of animation. The hardware can handle a lot more tiles but I'm being frugal so I have tons of space for more pixel art and NPCs which will require more animation frames.

Hello folks, first post on the site. I've been looking around for inspiration so I can get started on a game I've planned out. Not been able to find any decent free resources and I've never been much of a pixel-artist myself but it looks like I'll have to do the work myself... So, yesterday I started practicing and doodled this weird thing... Won't be used for anything I don't think, just practice until I can find a style I'm comfy with.

Frankforce, looks nice and smooth as well! I'm not so keen on the square head of the player character though.

Sometimes random phrases come to me that I think would make for great story ideas, or songs, or whatever... and thanks to twitter and facebook I tend to post them for people to riff on or whatever whatever... but now that I am getting into game development, I find myself being attracted to the idea of taking those phrases and turning them into pixel art / video game vignettes... so this is my first go at that...

... and below is some of the misc. sprites I've experimented with in the past few months as I take my first baby steps towards doing more serious animation and game design. Smiley

A little guy for a game I'm building tentatively called "building drop" > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWSrpz3AqSM

The main character for a video game I was considering creating to go along with the EP I'm working on which you can hear a little of here > https://soundcloud.com/deviever/seratoned-and-listless-loss-1

The protagonist and enemy of a game I'm developing called NO BOT... (the bunny is the enemy!)

Enhanced versions of rats for a later version of the game WHIP IT! I developed a few months ago > http://gamejolt.com/games/arcade/whip-it-v1/13788/

The low legibility of the tiny font brings it down a bit. Consider doubling the resolution.

I appreciate the advice, but the illegibility is half the fun.  Gomez

i first read it as "that's when i realized i has not a fish, but it has too late". it came off as meme-ish to me until i read the text on your website

Same. The colors also remind me a lot of Lois from Family Guy. xD
Nevertheless I am quite intrigued to see where this goes.

Thanks, it is like that on purpose though, the name of the game is SQUAREsville. Also from a design perspective to make the player more visible on tiny Sifteo cubes I tried to fill up the space as much as possible. The other NPCs in the game will not have square heads, I will post some soon.

Not 100% mine - Argyle is doing the shading for our sprites. But, this is a general idea of what's coming for the other characters.

(If you haven't spotted our game before, then yes, the bike is fully rideable. Gentleman )

The tail looks pretty weak compared to the rest. The tooth looks weird too.

Not exactly pixel art, but here are some sprite designs I'm working on for a beat-em-up game idea I have.

this last one is a simple combo string that ends with an energy blast I have yet to add (along with the lighting/shadows).
