so today nifflas announced that night game/nightsky is A) coming out at all, B) coming out on pc, and C) coming out on january 6 of the new year no word on how much it'll cost though, or where it'll be available still no explanation of the delay in release (since nifflas finished working on the game sometime in 2008), no explanation of the sudden retraction of a pc version and the sudden reappearance of the same, and no explanation of if/when the wiiware version of the game will come out (and of course since nifflas is under an nda, he can't say anything about any of this; he even made some posts on his forum expressing confusion at if and when the game would be released prior to the news that it'd come out on the sixth) so: hopefully this game will be awesome, and it'll be interesting since this is actually the nifflas game that comes between knytt stories and saira, just kept in limbo for two years, so it ought to be sort of a stylistic middle ground between the two (probably leaning towards saira) your thoughts?

Nope! Tyrone is publishing it, of course he's going to get some money. Of course, this will be hilarious if it really isn't coming out on wii since that would mean Tyrone has effectively done Nothing At All, unless you count delaying the game by two years as "doing something". I liked WaDF more than the Knytt stuff, so I'm looking forward to this. I hope it's not just Knytt with a ball, and is more like WaDF/more difficult etc. I guess we'll see in a week!

From the snippets I've seen, it looks more puzzle-based then Knytt, rather then exploration-based but I could be wrong ofcourse.

Remind me to never sign an NDA.
If I'm having problems with something, I'd like to be able to communicate it with the people interested, and not just keep my mouth shut and helplessly let them make up their own outlandish theories.

What's with Nifflas and this ability to make simple yet effective atmosphere?

I still prefer the aesthetic of Knytt and Knytt Stories, but NightSky looks pretty nice too. Glad to hear it's finally being released, though I'm still puzzled by its two-year delay, as I suppose we all are.

so nicalis and nifflas have said nothing about why they decided to release it on pc after all? it just came out of the blue after two years of saying it was wii-only?

Huh.
It seems surprising that their engine is apparently capable of working on both Windows and Wii, but that they don't have a working Mac build.

Nicalis has said (well, mentioned in passing*) that it'll be coming to Mac aswell (and iPhone, apparently). *From Nicalis' linked twitter post; Be good and help @schlarb with his project: http://kck.st/aYATYF He did the music for NightSky, now also coming to PC, Mac and iPhone. (Bold text added for emphasis) so nicalis and nifflas have said nothing about why they decided to release it on pc after all? it just came out of the blue after two years of saying it was wii-only?
Yeah, that's pretty much exactly how it happened. Nifflas has mentioned that he'd always hoped for it to be multi-platform, but that he knew he was potentially relinquishing that decision. I hoped for a PC version and a Wii version of course, but when I got involved in this I knew and agreed on that I wouldn't be the one to decide those things. I didn't know from the beginning that it would end up being Wii exclusive either, so I wasn't aware that I gave up a PC version for a Wii version. And still, to get a game out on the Wii is a great opportunity for me as a game designer! Then Nicalis "released" the news in that tweet, apparently as an afterthought. This meagre post contains all I know about it, unfortunately.

I'll just be patient then I was thinking last night that this game was a good candidate for android/iphone tilt/touch controls.

The game was made in MMF2 and Nicalis hired someone to do some fancy voodoo and make an interpreter or whatever the fuck to make it run on a Wii.

It's out! Get it here! EDIT: I have just completed the demo. The overall feel and the sound is great. The demo didn't bring any hard puzzles so I'm "hungry" for more. I'll probably buy it later this week.
