What have you posted evidence of?
That certain games released today can represent something way more negative in terms of regression then your example. You posted a video to represent something way more negative than an example I posted after you posted the video? Are you sure you're ok?

That certain games released today can represent something way more negative in terms of regression then your example. You posted a video to represent something way more negative than an example I posted after you posted the video? Are you sure you're ok? this is what concerned me: "And as someone who plays anything and everything from KotM to AAA blockbusters and all sorts inbetween, I'm not seeing any evidence that things have gotten worse."That Kinect video should have made you worried about the state of AAA videogames. And Microsoft put an incredibly amount of money on this thing, that budget was enough for a black man like me to almost turn white. For something so expensive and advanced to not work properly, and with a ton of lag no less. Wii also has a ton of problems. The Xbox 360 breaking down on me every few months was a ton of problems, what a nightmare that was. I also bought (a while ago) a Japanese 360 to play Japanese arcade games, and I paid $500 for it (imported from Play-Asia), and it has not broken down just yet, but I'm very fucking paranoid because I hear weird noises now. In other words, it's very easy to understand why things are going down hill. So don't be coy about that fact. Don't ask me to show you all these things. If you're a gamer, then you should know where I'm coming from. If you're not a gamer and you're not aware about these problems that gamers are having. Then fine, you're not a gamer. But don't talk with authority about something you have no knowledge of. Don't get me wrong, things will probably pick-up, but we have to recognize the problems if we want things to get "better".

@pdiddy - mainly because gamers are (usually rightfully) seen as socially inept people who waste most of their time playing violent games and arguing about them on the internet. gamer culture is really bad, it's full of people who have console wars, call each other faggot online, get angry at others when they lose in a game, etc. the stereotype is that 'gamers' don't do much besides playing games and arguing about them.
not that my life is especially balanced or flawless either, and yes i'm arguing about games on the internet too, etc. etc. -- it's just that 'gamer' is not a type of person i want to be associated with or identified with, its reputation is much worse to me than the reputation of 'indie', as far as labels go.
of course they're only labels, and of course there are gamers who read philosophy too (icycalm being one), gamers who go to parties and have girlfriends, etc., just as there are indies who make hardcore games and hate art games and casual games, but we're talking about labels and why i'd be insulted to get called by some particular label more than another particular label.
basically i think that although the label 'indie' has a bad reputation among many 'gamers', the label 'gamer' has an even worse reputation among most in the general public who are not 'gamers', and 'indie' has almost no reputation or a slightly positive reputation among the general public.

All of the above quoted things apply to Icycalm. The only real difference is that he reads philosophy (which he applies to games). Tony Zirbas is real gamer.

Ya it's true there's many gamers who don't like being called "gamer". But they're gamers nonetheless. A game developer is a gamer also. Who would ever make a game that they wouldn't play themselves. You say you play a lot of indie games, but why not go out of that bubble? I recommend you play Loopop Cube: Loop Salad, and you can pretend that it's a western indie game. Because if you do, you will be blown away at how "design" a game can get. It changed my whole outlook on gamemaking. the PSP version is not sold out: http://www.play-asia.com/paOScore/19-71-99-49-en-15-loopop.htmlBut I own the DS version: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=loopop&_sacat=See-All-Categories(they're all region-free so it will work on non-J systems) Whenever I watch TV, I play this on the DS, and the TV just becomes background. It's an incredible game. The problem is that you played bad mainstream games. I hate Assassin's Creed and Uncharted 2 and all that. But if you like indie, you should be open to playing Japanese games like Loopop Cube. How can it hurt?

Why? Joyride isn't an AAA game and it certainly isn't a portent of doom. Why does it make you so afraid? What scares you about it? Tell me about your mother. "so many so-called "independents" are as creatively bankrupt as the big boys... the only difference being that they are financially bankrupt as well."
Alec Holowka:
"The only big difference I'm noticing is that the indie community seems to have more talentless self-absorbed douche bags."
C.A. Sinclair (he said it in a more polite way though):
"I'll openly admit that I think the games produced by the current "TIGSource indie scene" don't measure up to the best mainstream games yet (but we're getting there).
Hey bro I gotta go Let me through I gotta go number 2 No can do I'm taking a pee Sitting on the loo having a good long wee And you're sitting down? I'm sitting down And you ain't makin brown? The funny part is that Alec has been accused of being a "talentless, self-absorbed douchebag" before.
Seriously, don't get into indie community politics. Just don't. It's stupid and you don't know shit about anything. All you are doing is wading waist-deep into a quagmire of continual bullshit. Everything about politicking is stupid as hell, and indie politics are no different. I should know, I've been in a few instances of them. Cherry-picking quotes out of context and devoid of the larger picture (which you don't understand or have) is either the act of somebody so ridiculously oblivious that they think they are being profound, or an obvious troll.

@pdiddy - it's largely an issue of time and money.
regarding money: i don't own a ds or a psp, for instance, so playing that game would cost me several hundred dollars which i don't have. i have an xbox though so if you have any xbox games to recommend let me know, but my funds to buy games are very small (which is partly why i mainly play indie games: they're either free or cheap).
regarding time: i don't have that much time to spend playing games. every hour i play a game is an hour i can't spend working on my game. and because i spend so much time on the computer making my own game and playtesting it, it makes me want to play the games of others less, because it feels like the same kind of thing. i'd much rather read, talk to people on irc, post on forums, playtest indie games of others to help them improve, and so on, than to continue trying out games which have in the past bored me.
i do try it sometimes though. for instance, i tried playing gears of war 1 and 2 and halo reach with eva. but i never really got into those games, and only really played them because of the multiplayer with other people that i knew; i didn't have much desire to play through the single player on my own, or to play multiplayer with people i do not know. i also recently played through civ 5, although i was a bit disappointed at how often it crashed and how slow it ran; even indie games don't crash as often or run as terribly (near the end game, on a huge map, over 7 minutes of loading time between turns!?).
i don't want to give the impression that i basically gave up on mainstream games, just that i have a lot of hobbies, and playing mainstream games are very low on that list of hobbies. my list of priorities is basically divided like this, in this order:
1. working on my current game project, and managing my indie game business (customer support for instance, but also basic things like public relations, making a trailer, working on the website, and so on) 2. the everyday tasks of life: preparing food, eating, sleeping, exercising, cleaning, etc. 3. social interactions of various kinds 4. playing indie games, giving feedback to other indie game developers, discussing things with other indie game developers on forums like this one 5. watching youtube, reading internet websites, reading wikipedia or reddit or twitter 6. reading (i've a lot of books that i haven't read yet that are stacking up) 7. writing articles about indie games for tigsource 8. playing mainstream games 9. learning the japanese language 10. playing starcraft and watching professional starcraft 11. watching television or movies
so basically if i can do something higher up on the priority list, i do. if i'm too tired to do something on that list, or if i'm bored of it, or finished with it as far as i can for the day and want to do something else, then i go down the list. but i seldom get down far enough to reach the lower ones, due to time being limited. the last movie i watched was probably in mid-2010 for instance.
i'm not saying this is a good priority list or that i wouldn't benefit from changing the order of things a bit, but i don't particularly see how moving mainstream games up the list would benefit me much, considering how often they've let me down. it's very rare that i find a mainstream game that i like (the last one was probably persona 4 by atlus, not counting starcraft 2, which i play more as a sport than as a game).

You aren't going to be banned, even if your posts have been undoubtedly the worst in this entire thread. TIGsource doesn't just ban shit posters. You actually have to go above and beyond to get banned. As it should be.

I'm gonna tangent and say that I like first Assassin's Creed, the sandbox aspect of it that is. Everything else felt not so fun. I feel the same about GTA - the sandbox aspect is awesome, but I never got to finish GTA games as I found missions too boring.
Uncharted 2 on the other hand is just tedious, albeit interesting at times.

I've gone back to my usual calm and measured self in my last posts. I think I went too far trolling substance though and I apologize for turning the thread into shit for a couple pages. I regret nothing I said to guitar_mobster. Also Uncharted (the first one, haven't bothered with 2) is everything I dislike about modern corporate games in one neat, tidy package.
