Matt Smith being the best of the recent Doctors doesn't seem to be particularly controversial. Whilst I am often berated for thinking Ecclestone's menacingly unhinged (sometimes, but not always, masked by carefully-crafted gangly, buffoonish humour) Doctor is a more satisfying interpretation than Tennant's incessant whining and forced "wackiness", Matt Smith really nails it. He's got that wing-and-a-prayer approach to problem solving which results in some rather charming displays of improvisation, coupled with the ability to turn on a dime. When he's pushed far enough to drop into "serious mode" it gives me goosebumps. The only thing that bugs me (and I think it's a fault of the scriptwriters rather than him) is that he seems to lack perception - a lot of the time the audience has figured out what's going on a long time before the Doctor does, and that's just wrong. He should be the Holmes to our Watson.

Also, bowties are cool.

Following on from my earlier comment about the Bonzos - Spinal Tap and Tenacious D are often better than the rock tropes they parody. Flight of the Conchords, however, are over-rated toss. Oh, and Metallica was basically made for that album S&M where they play with the orchestra. Everything else they've done sounds too bare and childish to be worth my time.

EDIT: Sorano, that video is awesome. Reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDDHHrt6l4w

Oh, here's one: All of the Star Wars films are massively over-rated... (etc.)
The original Star Wars movies were very impressive for the time,... (etc.)
You know, I can't stand the Star Wars movies. None of them. I don't know why, I've tried to watch them several times over and I still can't bring myself to like them. However, I love a lot of the Star Wars games. Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 and The Force Unleashed 1 & 2 were both pretty killer, even if just story-wise (especially KotOR 2).

There's also "Drives Us Bats", featuring Neil Patrick Harris as the Music Meister. Plus, here are some other episodes:

- Batman goes on a Death Race along with other heroes and villains to decide the fate of Earth.
- Batman and Plastic Man must stop Gorilla Grodd and his army of robot dinosaur riding super apes.
- Aquaman's Family RV Summer Vacation. Not kidding.
- Batman meets the Super-Batman of Planet X.
- Batman and Scooby-Doo will show soon.
- Batman and Red Tornado must stop an army of Evil Robot Santas.

And the series keeps using the more obscure characters like Fire & Ice, Detective Chimp, The Question, Catman, Bat-Mite, all 3 Flashes, Plastic Man, Captain Marvel.

It's Goddamn A-MA-ZING.

I've heard that Batman: The Brave and the Bold is awesome, unanimously. Don't know how that's controversial.

David Tennant is marrying is own clone. True story.

his clone who is his fictional daughter and is the irl fifth doctor's daughter

that is like triple incest what the hell

edit: also, matt smith is still fairly controversial because people are still butthurt over tennant leaving. also, while most of smith's season was good, not great, the van gogh episodes and the christmas carol really stood out as wonderful episodes.

I agree that Daft Punk isn't super great. In addition to how blatant their sample use is, their vocals/lyrics are sometimes really annoying. But then, they've also got stuff like "Da Funk" and "Short Circuit" which are downright brilliant to me.

I don't think this is too controversial or unpopular.
The media is full of mistakes, biases, deceit, omission of details and half-truths; some pushing for some kind of thesis.

Some of Academia's most popular books source mine and omit details to support the author's thesis.  This may become very evident when reading multiple books regarding the shared topic.

The media's account may run contrary to, or only tell half the story, personal and acquaintances eyewitness accounts.  Some minor events are made to look significant, while significant events may be made to look insignificant.

Believe only half of what you see and nothing that you hear.

Not only did i like Ep. I-III of Star Wars, i thought it was better than the original trilogy. Jar Jar Binks was hilarious and cute, and quite frankly, i'll take pod races any day over Indiana Jones vs. The Empire or some stupid prisoner running around in a bikini outfit. Tongue

When we're at sampling, I think Akufen is one of the best:

Justin Martin and Roman Rai do it very well too.

But somehow these guys are virtually unknown. WTF

Akufen is good in terms of sampling, but he's nowhere near the level of DJ Shadow. This track (and all the others on the Endtroducing album) was constructed entirely out of samples. It's also from slightly before the time when home computers became a viable tool for extensive sampling, so it was all made on a hardware sampler.

Speaking of samples, here's another opinion: Girl Talk is mediocre and overhyped.

So this would be: I think Batman: The Brave and the Bold is unbearably cheesy and the  worst Batman cartoon I've seen so far. It's not funny enough to be a parody and impossible to take seriously.

Thinking back on Nirvana, I realize I don't like most rock bands from the 90s who had similar style. Deep Purple, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains.
A lot of them just sounded bored and had shitty half-political half-nonsense lyrics.
A rebellion of convenience is hardly a rebellion.

I love Dragonforce entirely unironically.

I don't know if it is controversial or not, but I disliked Red Dead Redemption. I had to force myself to play it. It was such a chore and bore. The only reason I completed it was because it was almost universally accepted as amazing.

I never liked GTA games either though.

it was just an interactive movie, I didn't even have to play it, I watched my gf, a non gamer, who had never played any xbox360 games, play through the entire thing.  So at least in that aspect I give Red Dead Redemption a  Hand Thumbs Up Right  but yeah...

Why did you forced yourself to play a game that you don't like just because it's "almost universally accepted as amazing"? Everybody has different tastes and games are designed to make people entertained, not to be a chore.

Hmmm...

That sort of sampling is not good sampling in my book. I appreciate that he relied completely on samplers to create his music, but the end result could have been easily made without all that hassle. Not only that, but the end result is unremarkable.

Uh... not to be pedantic, but Deep Purple was formed in like 67 or something. And they have nothing to do with "grunge" or whatever.

I know. They just experienced a revival around the same time due to the style of their music. To their credit, their lyrics and music were better. But it still seemed sort of... mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Bleach is awesome; I've listened to their box set With The Lights Out more than anything. The last couple acoustic tracks make me wish he didn't eat that shotgun -- I've since moved on to acoustic-punk to fill that gap.

DKC2 better than Super Mario World?  Sad I dunno, I played both as a young'un and SMW held up more when I played it recently. This is coming from somebody who scours the net for good romhacks of said game, so disregard the above.

The Melvins are better than all the bands that were inspired by them (excluding BORIS, of course)

I won't ever watch Avatar, unless it's 3D at a movie theatre and I scored psychedelics of some sort. People ask if I want to watch the DVD, and I always give a big "eeeehhh".
