I really need to try getting myself to try using the brushes and stuff cause so far I've been addicted to the non-antialiasing legacy pen tool in SAI for reasons I'm not quite sure why.

My current sketchbook only has a few blank pages left, I'll take some time to scan stuff once I reach the end. Meanwhile, trees.

Looks like you gained some good insight into metals, conker. I'm familiar with the photo and think maybe another 15-30 minutes could teach you a lot and make it a lot better. Some questions to consider;

Are there hard surfaces you're leaving out, where dramatic changes in shape will show a lot to the viewer? specifically: around the eyes

Is the perspective right on the lower part of the mask (the mandibles) -- should we be able to see the inside of both of them?

Are there any subtle reflections you missed (esp in dark areas?)

Cool, Conker! Studying metal is kind of hard without a good understanding of its environment, like what objects surrounding it is being reflected in the material, what light sources are hitting it etc.

So just straight up painting it from a reference, copying the shapes you see on the metal might not be helpful toward understanding how the metal would look in any hypothetical situation. I suggest finding a metal pot or highly reflective surface in real life, staging a still life of it and note the position of everything surrounding it, then paint the pot from different angles.

Also I wouldn't recommend using painterly brushes or anything at this stage, because using hard round digital stuff lets you focus on making the rendering look good independent of any tricks or stylistic considerations. I went through that too, it's hard to give up gimmicks when they turn out to not work out the way you want them to.

@Catguy
I pushed it farther, glad i did!

@BLAMBO
Yeah that's probably true. I'll do that next time I paint something metallic.
Aha yeah I need to give up the fancy brush, they are such a big crutch. xD

I tried to animate some game fanarts I did in my sketchbook sometimes ago and it was kinda fun, so I did it again. With astronauts this time. Yea.
Not sure these can actually be considered doodles but there's no topic for "animated gifs from manipulated doodle scans" so...
