Description
Players are given two sides to an argument/discussion and they have to persuade the others to join their way of thinking. Only those that have chosen a side can make their case, the undecided have to remain silent. At the end of the time limit, or if everyone reaches agreement, the sides are tallied and that age old question is answered. So who was the best captain of the enterprise? Is coke better than pepsi? Does god exist? Icycalm or Jason Rohrer? Soon we will have all the answers...
How to play
Download and run the app linked above, and enter a username, this can be anything you like. Either select a room to join or start your own. If you create your own room you'll need to configure your router for port-forwarding of port 42000. Once conected choose a side and get debating.

Make it like a fighting-ish game in which you use your wits and clever argumentative ripostes as attacks and semantics as defense.

To host a room you need to set your router to allow port 42000 to reach your computer.

This is the first time I've ever done anything over the net so want to check I'm doing it right. You can either join a room or create your own. You can't do much after joining a room apart from pick a side and type some text.

Make it like a fighting-ish game in which you use your wits and clever argumentative ripostes as attacks and semantics as defense.

You could even frame it in the context of presidential candidacy debates, with two candidates debating something, and an audience of X spectators, each with a set of stats that the debaters can appeal to etc. Finally, at the beginning of each battle, you could have a random sentence generator of some sort that poses the subject to debate (the more ridiculous the better), and then have a coin toss, whoever wins can choose 'for' or 'against, or to go first or second, with the other player getting to choose whatever the first player didn't choose.

I think a similar idea for this was in last week's Extra Credits or something.

Alternately: Go with oddball's original idea, and make it text only, but then add blood. Enormous quantities of blood. Mortal Kombat 2 levels of blood.

D'oh. I'm showing my inexperience with these things. Apparently you need to open port 42000 on your router if you want to host a game. It should all be working now. You'll need to download again.
