I'll come up with a real title once I decide on a visual theme
I've always wanted to work on a game like Advance Wars, so what better time than now. I spent a couple days developing other action-based ideas but I think this is the best route because:
a. I'll enjoy working on it
b. Turn-based is easier to network
c. Less rigging and skeletal animation (need time for b!)
Not much fleshed out in terms of features, but here's what I'm thinking so far:
- Players start on either side of a map
- Two levels of "terrain" + air for tactical advantage
- Main base building that can be expanded to build different unit types (think Halo Wars for a sec without barfing)
- Units have their normal attack + a special ability on a cooldown of some number of turns
- Resource nodes that can be captured to buy stuff faster
- Win buy capturing the opponent's base or killing their army
Obviously there's some secrecy involved with strategy games so there will be 3 ways to play:
1. Fog of war, wait screen between turns (so the other person can look away)
2. No fog of war or wait screen
3. Networked, where privacy isnt an issue (time permitting during-compo, definitely post-compo)
I'll post art on here soon, keep an eye out!
